Football League Division One: Tyrone 0-11 1-08 Derry
- Published
Darren McCurry's stoppage-time free helped Tyrone snatch a 0-11 to 1-8 draw against Derry in the Division 1 Football League Ulster derby at Omagh.
Derry looked set for their first win of the season when substitute Terence O'Brien's goal helped them lead by four after 62 minutes.
However, Derry's Niall Holly was then sent off and Tyrone hit five of the last six scores to snatch a draw.
The result gave Derry their first league point as Tyrone move to three.
Referee David Coldrick only gave the go-ahead for the action to proceed following a lengthy inspection of a pitch that had been battered by heavy rain throughout the afternoon.
After Colm Cavanagh had opened the scoring for Tyrone, Eoin Bradley, making his first Derry start in two years, levelled from a free.
Derry goalkeeper Eoin McNicholl came to his side's rescue with a fine save from Aidan McCrory, but the Red Hands went back in front when Connor McAliskey carved the opening for Sean Cavanagh's first score of the evening.
But a Carlus McWilliams score, a long range punt that hopped over the bar despite the sodden surface, and a Bradley gem from a tight angle, saw the sides draw level by the half-hour mark.
Sean Cavanagh's free sent Tyrone in with a 0-4 to 0-3 interval lead while the Red Hands extended their advantage to 0-6 to 0-4, a huge James Kielt free and Benny Heron point restored parity once again.
It was no surprise when Derry went in front when Sean Leo McGoldrick pointed in the 62nd minute point and O'Brien's goal a minute later looked likely to be the decisive score.
However, Derry immediately lost full back Niall Holly to a second booking which helped Tyrone to mount a late fight-back.
Mattie Donnelly, Sean Cavanagh and PJ Lavery were on target, before McCurry held his nerve with a crucial free three minutes into stoppage-time, with Derry claiming that the free had been of the soft variety.
