If that had been a film people would say it was too far-fetched! Well done Rory, deserved it!

Lying flat out on the sofa last night, my heart rate was 92 whilst they were teeing off for the play-off hole. I’ve no idea how they managed to control their emotions to hit those shots under those circumstances. Incredible final day.

I don't even particularly like golf, but I stayed up to watch McIlroy's winning moment. May have teared up a bit too seeing his emotion at winning.

  4. Why was McIlroy's Grand Slam journey so special?published at 10:08 British Summer Time 14 April

Throughout this live page you will hear time and again how Rory McIlroy managed to "bounce back" - his words - from adversity.

His final round at this year's Masters was like a microcosm of his journey, with so many highs and lows.

The journey he took to achieve the career Grand Slam is all the more remarkable because of the length of time it took him.

All the other winners completed the set of four wins in relatively quick fashion, but Rory made us wait...11 years:

    Masters: 2025

    PGA Championship: 2012, 2014

    The Open: 2014

    US Open: 2011

First thing first, what is a career Grand Slam in golf?

Similar to tennis, there are four major tournaments in the sport that are competed for each year and considered to be the most prestigious to win.

    They are the:

    • Masters
    • US PGA Championship
    • US Open
    • The Open
