It's been a long time coming for the USA after coming up empty handed for the last three Solheim Cups running, but they've got their hands on the prize this time around.

They've played the best golf throughout and deserved to win, but Europe really gave them a fright today.

And all the drama today has done is make us even more excited about the next one in 2026 in the Netherlands!

  4. 'We'll come back, very hungry' - Pettersenpublished at 20:08 British Summer Time 15 September

Europe captain Suzann Pettersen watched her side mount a spirited challenge but ultimately fall short:

"We gave them a run for their money. I don’t think anyone expected us to be here at 2.30pm (19:30 BST) and still have a chance. It’s hard to believe we actually had a chance. That poor start gave them such a head start.

"It’s always exciting on a Sunday. There were possibilities out there and several times we thought we could get it done but it came down to a couple of matches.

"I am happy for Stacy Lewis winning at home but we’ll come back very hungry.

"I’ve truly enjoyed it, win or lose. It’s fun to win, a little bit more painful to lose.

"At the end of the day we’ve had a lot of small victories within our team this week, a lot of fun and moments I will cherish forever.

    "Solheim’s are the best."

  5. Big stars came to the partypublished at 20:07 British Summer Time 15 September

Coming into this, Europe only had Celine Boutier in the top 10. The US had three of the top 10, including the world number one.

The big stars that weren't firing for the US on Spanish soil have really come to the party here.

Europe have fought back here. Suzann Pettersen has managed to galvanise them behind the cause on this final day.

    They've won the singles session.

  6. Europe's MVP?published at 20:06 British Summer Time 15 September

    USA win the Solheim Cup

Charley Hull played in all five sessions and just got better and better.

She was disappointed to lose both her matches on Friday.

But what a turnaround, winning foursomes and fourballs yesterday and then demolishing the previously imperious Nelly Korda today.

Of all the Europeans, she didn't deserve to be on the losing side.

  7. 'Special group of girls'published at 20:05 British Summer Time 15 September

Lexi Thompson, who will retire from professional golf at the end of the 2024 season and is playing in her final Solheim Cup, hailed the performance of Team USA.

She said: "No words can explain this. I am so happy to be here, so proud of my team and the captain. We all just came together this week. We knew from the start we had a special team, and a special group of girls.

"It was incredible with the chemistry that we all had. They played amazing and it was great to be a part of it.

"We knew coming into the week the Europeans had so much talent. They brought their A-game and we knew we had to bring our A-game. We knew we had to make a lot of birdies and play our best."

A lot of the huge crowd guarding the 18th hole earlier dispersed once the outcome was sealed but plenty of fans have hung around to watch the impromptu trophy presentation on the 18th green.

There is a huge after party planned for the US team after the closing ceremony in front of the clubhouse.

  9. 'Credit to Stacy'published at 20:02 British Summer Time 15 September

Megan Khang paid tribute to the data driven approach of Stacy Lewis in helping the USA secure victory.

"We had so many great ball strikers this week and honestly I told Stacy I'll do whatever is best for this team. She said prove me wrong and I tried my best to do so.

"Stacy's been out there about being a numbers girl and it did well last year. Obviously this year it was more in our favour but there's something to it.

"She puts in the hours and goes through the paperwork so you have to give her the credit for working out the best pairings."

  10. USA celebratepublished at 20:01 British Summer Time 15 September

Great scenes on the banks of Lake Manassas as Team USA celebrate winning the Solheim Cup at what was a brilliant host venue at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club.

Their families are joining them and plenty are paying tribute to Stacy Lewis, who has put everything into the last two tournament she's been captain, and this time her analytical approach got the job done after that tie in Spain.

My feeling is that Stacy Lewis' analytical approach is the thing that has put her ahead of Suzann Pettersen.

Ultimately they've had two contests and Lewis has won one and a half to a half.

  12. 'Buck stops with Pettersen'published at 19:56 British Summer Time 15 September

    USA win the Solheim Cup

    Lydia Hall
Ladies European Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

There are question marks over Leona Maguire. I know she has been struggling with form but we do know her pedigree and she can show up in these big moments.

But you never know the conversations inside the locker room - whether it's form, confidence or going with that gut feeling.

Ultimately, Suzann is the captain and the buck stops with her.

  13. Trophy time!published at 19:56 British Summer Time 15 September

The USA get handed the Solheim Cup - it's been a long time coming that's for sure and only two of the 12 players have sampled this feeling before.

Nelly Korda having played in three Solheim Cups without winning never felt right, and after her form this week she in particular deserves it.

I'm guessing the party will be going on for quite some time...

    Sunday Singles

A three-point win but it was so close - just those three matches that ended all square, Europe led in all of them at one stage and they could have well tipped the balance in their favour.

These two teams are so evenly matched and another thrilling Sunday is brilliant for the competition.

  15. 'What you expect from best players in the world'published at 19:53 British Summer Time 15 September

    USA win the Solheim Cup

    Stacy lewisImage source, Getty Images

Stacy Lewis on winning back the Solheim Cup:

"This is so cool, it's so stressful to watch. It's awful watching. It's amazing how these things come down to half a point here or there. Fortunately we were on the right side of it.

    Tight at the end:

"It's crazy at the end how it all unfolded. it could have gone either way. The finish there was unbelievable and that's what you expect from the best players in the world."

  16. Pettersen should be proudpublished at 19:52 British Summer Time 15 September

If you'd sum up Suzann Pettersen in two words it's proud and philosophical as she starts to reflect on losing the Solheim Cup to the USA.

And she has every right to be proud as with half of the Sunday singles completed Europe had a genuine chance, and the margins here have been paper thin.

A put here and there a hole here and there and it could well have been a different story.

  17. Final score: USA 15½-12½ Europepublished at 19:47 British Summer Time 15 September

Right, that's the scoring all sewn up and we officially have a 15½-12½ victory for the USA which, if you hadn't seen any of today, you would think was reasonably comfortable.

However, those of us who watched it all unfold today know it was anything but comfortable.

  18. Points apiece to wrap up the actionpublished at 19:44 British Summer Time 15 September

    2&1 Kupcho v Grant & Schmelzel v Sagestrom 1UP

Jennifer Kupcho secures a whole point for USA with a tidy putt on the 17th and victory over Linn Grant 2&1.

Seconds later, at the 18th, Madelene Sagstrom holds off Sarah Schmelzel to take a full point for Europe.

A final score of 15½-12½ is in the history books.

Nelly Korda, who lost to Charley Hull today but dominated in the fourballs and foursomes, said of her first Solheim Cup victory: "It's been an amazing week. We all bonded really well and it's been that way from the get go with the caddies and the players. Honestly, it's been a dream week.

"It's such an incredible week and to have Paula, Morgan, Angela and obviously Stacy leading us, it's a dream come true to do it for them."

Lilia Vu made the key putt at the 18th to win the Solheim Cup for the USA.

She's just told Sky she felt she needed to make an impact:

"I feel like I didn’t do my part this week and I wanted to get something done. I said to my caddie on 16, I haven’t done anything for this team and then 16 came. I had to make up and down, I somehow birdied 17 and then got it done on 18 to get the half point."

On what Stacy Lewis said to them before the contest: "Give it all you’ve got, you never know what can happen on singles, we need that point. Every single half point matters."
