So, ahem - change of plan.

We will not now hear from Luke Donald's news conference. Instead BBC golf correspondent Ian Carter will be speaking to the Team Europe captain shortly - and the best bits you will then find in our developing story.

  2. Europe must adapt to course conditionspublished at 15:31 British Summer Time

    Iain Carter
    BBC golf correspondent

The home captain has a big say in how the course is set up and the American's will want a driving and putting competition.

If they can set it up that way they will feel very confident, for Europe they will have to be prepared for that because when they played in Rome it was the exact opposite to that.

Luke Donald is trying to anticipate what Keegan Bradley wants from this Bethpage Black course.

  4. Donald chooses experience to manage the crowdpublished at 15:21 British Summer Time

    Iain Carter
    BBC golf correspondent

I think Luke Donald has gone down the experienced route because of what is expected to be an extremely hostile atmosphere.

Donald wants players that have played at home but also away from home and he has made the point that, for him, all the preparation is about getting his team to be able to play in front of a group of fans that will be hostile.

  5. Ryder Cup 'was a longshot' for Fitzpatrickpublished at 15:16 British Summer Time

    Iain Carter
    BBC golf correspondent

Very much it has been the form of the summer that has made the case for Matt Fitzpatrick to retain his place in the team.

I think he felt for much of this year that the form was not there and that the Ryder Cup was a longshot but he turned his form around.

  6. Donald opts for continuitypublished at 15:13 British Summer Time

In case you missed it earlier - Shane Lowry, Jon Rahm, Sepp Straka, Ludvig Aberg, Viktor Hovland and Matt Fitzpatrick are Luke Donald's captain's picks.

They join Rory McIlroy, Robert MacIntyre, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, Rasmus Hojgaard and Tyrrell Hatton to complete the 12-man Europe team.

It means 11 of the 12 players from Rome will tee it up in Bethpage. The only change sees Rasmus Hojgaard - who qualified automatically - replace his brother, Nicolai.

Since the Ryder Cup was altered to allow European players to compete in 1979, there has never been so few changes made to a team - on average, Europe make five in each two-year cycle.

  10. 'Different challenge to win away'published at 14:38 British Summer Time

Luke Donald on completing his team: "The last two weeks are the most difficult part of a captain's job. There are people who are jockeying for position and people who feel like they might have done enough but then get a call to say they are not in the team and that is tough.

"I do feel like we have an amazing and strong team and it just so happens that there is so much continuity from Rome. It is a different challenge, winning away in Ryder Cup's is not easy."

  11. 'I feel amazingly proud of these guys'published at 14:36 British Summer Time

Luke Donald on his completed 12-man team: "I feel amazingly proud of these guys. A lot of continuity from Rome, that is a bit unusual, but shows how good they are.

"But while there is continuity this is a different animal to play away in America. We know how difficult it is. I have looked at lots of different angles to try and prepare us for the challenge ahead.

"It is about implementing new techniques. I am very aware we have lost three of the last four away Ryder Cups by significant margins. I have tried everything I can to give my team the best opportunity."

  12. Postpublished at 14:32 British Summer Time

So 11 of the 12 players from Rome will tee it up in Bethpage.

The only change sees Rasmus Hojgaard - who qualified automatically - replace his brother, Nicolai.

  13. 'I have turned my game around'published at 14:29 British Summer Time

Matt Fitzpatrick: "It's always exciting and It's a nice birthday present.

"There is a lot of belief [for me] after the last few weeks and I feel like I have turned my game around from the start of the season and would be lovely to continue that down in to Bethpage."

  14. 'He is playing tremendous golf'published at 14:27 British Summer Time

Luke Donald on Matt Fitzpatrick: "Matt said himself that he didn't get off to the best start this year but he has turned it around impressively. Statistically no-one has been as good as he has the last three or four months. He is playing tremendous golf and it is really impressive to see his game come along trying to make this team."

The 30-year-old Yorkshireman will be making his fourth appearance in the Ryder Cup, having played in the victorious 2023 team and being on losing teams away in 2016 and 2021.

His overall record is not brilliant with just one point and seven defeats from eight matches - and he is yet to pick up a point on US soil.

But captain Luke Donald clearly has faith in the 2022 US Open winner.

  16. 'I feel more experienced'published at 14:24 British Summer Time

Ludvig Aberg: "I definitely feel more experienced this time. I felt like I had the most amazing week in Rome, I was really proud to be a part of that team and I knew I wanted to be there again."

  17. Postpublished at 14:24 British Summer Time

Luke Donald on Ludvig Aberg: "He got a little bit of heat before Rome when it happened, he was just out of college. But he is one of the best players in the world. The accolades just keep coming."

  18. Ludvig Aberg is fifth pickpublished at 14:21 British Summer Time

The Swede was just breaking through in 2023 and captain Luke Donald took a gamble on the then 23-year-old, who became the first player to compete in a Ryder Cup before a major.

And he delivered in the foursomes with Viktor Hovland, picking up two points including a record-breaking 9&7 victory over Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka that left Scheffler in tears.

  19. 'You are part of something bigger than yourself'published at 14:20 British Summer Time

Viktor Hovland: "It's unbelievable. I can feel my palms are getting really sweaty and I'm super excited to get going.

"It is hard to describe [how it feels to play in a Ryder Cup], golf is an individual sport and I do really miss the team aspect of golf that I had in college and so when you get to represent 11 other guys and your captain it feels like you are part of something a lot bigger than yourself."

  20. 'He was a lion of us in Rome'published at 14:20 British Summer Time

Luke Donald on Viktor Hovland: "Look at his energy and his smile. He is one of my favourite humans. I am always so impressed with how dedicated he is to his craft. He was a lion of us in Rome and he will continue to be that in Bethpage."
