The Norwegian, who finished 10th in qualifying, is in the European side for a third time.

He enjoyed a superb foursomes partnership with Ludvig Aberg two years ago in Rome with two big wins.

However, he had three defeats and two halved matches in the defeat at Whistling Straits in 2021.

After a slow start to the season, he won the Valspar Championship on the PGA Tour and had a best major finish of third at the US Open.

  2. Straka 'excited' to returnpublished at 14:17 British Summer Time 1 September

Sepp Straka: "It's incredible. Just watching those videos it gets you really excited. You think making a Ryder Cup would just be a check off the list but I'm really excited to be a part of this team.

"Shane [Lowry] I could not of picked a better partner for my first Ryder Cup and I'm looking forward to some more good memories in New York."

  3. 'Has a fire in his belly'published at 14:17 British Summer Time 1 September

Luke Donald on Sepp Straka: "You always want to see who are you up against and no-one has won on the PGA Tour more this year outside of Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler. He has been performing at a very high level. His game speaks for himself. A quiet reserved character but has a fire in his belly."

The Austrian was also a captain's pick when he made his debut two years ago in Rome.

He played in three matches, winning one point.

Straka was twice partnered in the foursomes (alternate shot) format with Shane Lowry, winning one and losing one and he was then beaten in the singles by Justin Thomas.

The 32-year-old finished eighth in the European qualification standings.

  5. Rahm looking forward to 'special' Ryder Cuppublished at 14:13 British Summer Time 1 September

Jon Rahm: "It is a different feeling. I did not think I would feel this emotional being picked even though Luke told me a few days ago.

"It's going to be special, I cannot wait to be in Bethpage. New Yorkers are going to be incredible fans and I hope we have a better showing than the last time in the US."

  6. 'Jon sets the standard for us'published at 14:12 British Summer Time 1 September

Luke Donald on Jon Rahm: "Jon sets the standard for us. He is meticulous with what he does. He is first up and last out of the team room. He understands the history of the Ryder Cup and what it represents, following in the footsteps of some amazing Spanish players."

A fourth appearance for the Spaniard who now plays on the LIV Golf circuit, where he won the individual title for the second successive year.

The 30-year-old has won 7½ points in his previous three Ryder Cups and holds a 100% record in the foursomes format with four wins from four.

Rahm also picked up 3½ points in a losing team at Whistling Straits in 2021, the last Ryder Cup held on American soil.

  8. Lowry 'very grateful' for selectionpublished at 14:08 British Summer Time 1 September

Shane Lowry: "It's unbelievable. It's been a stressful few weeks and stressful year trying to make the team.

"I'm very grateful that Luke and his team have put their faith in me again this time and hopefully I can repay them by producing the goods."

  9. 'One hell of a player'published at 14:08 British Summer Time 1 September

Luke Donald on Shane Lowry: "He was very close to making it automatically. You see what Shane brings with his infectious energy. He understands team above everything else. It is great to have his energy and vibes in the team room. He is one hell of a player as well."

No real surprise - Shane Lowry is first captain's pick.

The Irishman was pipped to automatic qualification on the final day by Rasmus Hojgaard.

This is the third successive Ryder Cup he has been included as a captain's pick and the 38-year-old has contributed 2½ points from his previous appearances.

Lowry has had an inconsistent 2025 with four top-10s on the PGA Tour but missed cuts in two of the majors.

  11. Luke Donald is herepublished at 14:04 British Summer Time 1 September

Luke Donald has arrived and is set to announce his picks.

    Here we go...

  12. US captain Bradley does not pick himselfpublished at 14:02 British Summer Time 1 September

United States Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley made his picks last week, opting not to pick himself as a player.

Bradley said at one stage he was ready to take on both roles, before having a rethink. He said it "broke my heart not to play" but that his "ultimate goal" was to be the best possible captain.

Instead, he selected Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin, Cameron Young, Patrick Cantley and Sam Burns to join automatic qualifiers Scottie Scheffler, JJ Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, Harris English and Bryson DeChambeau.

  13. Who are Team Europe's vice-captains?published at 14:00 British Summer Time 1 September

Luke Donald is captaining Europe again after leading the team to success in 2023.

Four of his five vice-captains in Rome - Thomas Bjorn, Edoardo Molinari, Jose Maria Olazabal and Francesco Molinari - will join him again in New York.

  14. Who else will Donald pick?published at 13:57 British Summer Time 1 September

Will Luke Donald go for experience or new blood in what is likely to be a boisterous atmosphere in New York?

Matt Fitzpatrick revealed Donald urged him to play at the British Masters, and the Englishman had an excellent start to the tournament. He led by one going into the final round before fading on Sunday. He then followed that with a top-five in last week's European Masters.

And while his Ryder Cup record is poor, with just one win and seven defeats across three contests, Fitzpatrick did win the 2022 US Open.

Rasmus Hojgaard's twin brother Nicolai may be in the reckoning. He went close at the Belfry and has the experience of having played in the victory in Rome in 2023.

And could Alex Noren have played his way into contention with victory at the British Masters? The 43-year-old Swede missed seven months of qualification with a hamstring injury but although he served a timely reminder of his quality, it seems unlikely.

Meanwhile, two Englishmen in Harry Hall and Marco Penge have staked their claims to make Ryder Cup debuts.

Hall has impressed on the PGA Tour, with five top-10s, and he qualified for the season-ending Tour Championship - a limited field of 30 players - after finishing sixth in the previous week's BMW Championship.

Penge climbed to 14th in the standings by beating Rasmus Hojgaard by one stroke to claim the DP World Tour's Danish Golf Championship in August, his second title of the season.

  15. Hojgaard takes final qualification spotpublished at 13:54 British Summer Time 1 September

Europe's qualification process concluded after the British Masters on 24 August, with Denmark's Rasmus Hojgaard claiming the final automatic spot.

He has joined Rory McIlroy, Robert MacIntyre, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose and Tyrrell Hatton.

Hojgaard was the only player capable of knocking Shane Lowry out of the automatic qualification spots at the British Masters and the Dane dutifully did just that.

Despite that disappointment Lowry looks a certain pick given he only just missed out on automatic qualification. Spain's Jon Rahm, who won the LIV Golf individual title for a second successive year, looks nailed on, while Sweden's Ludvig Aberg and Norwegian Viktor Hovland are also likely to be in the 12-strong team.
