  1. Postpublished at 17:38 British Summer Time 14 June

    Detry -5 (13*)

Thomas Detry drills his second into the fourth green and will have a look at birdie and the outright lead from 21 feet.

Now what can he do here? He's going across the green from left to right but that's short of gas and pulls up two feet short.

  2. Horschel going wellpublished at 17:36 British Summer Time 14 June

    Horschel E (14)

Billy Horschel has four holes left of his second round.

Starting on three-over-par for the par, Horschel has cancelled that out today with four birdies, including one on the par-four 14th.

Should be end the round as he has started it, he will certainly be in action of the weekend.

  3. Hovland's excellent putt saves bogeypublished at 17:33 British Summer Time 14 June

    DeChambeau -3, Homa +6, Hovland +6 (16)

A double bogey would have all but ended Viktor Hovland's chances of making the weekend.

A 17-foot uphill putt from him is perfect. It may only save a bogey on the 16th, but if he makes the weekend, Hovland knows that is one of the shots that has allowed him to do.

Bryson DeChambeau rushes an 18-foot putt for a birdie and leaves it short, making it at the second attempt.

Max Homa stays at six-over par with a five-and-a-half foot putt.

  4. MacIntyre's hopes fadepublished at 17:31 British Summer Time 14 June

    MacIntyre +6 (17)

It looks like Scotland's Robert MacIntyre will be having the weekend off.

The 27-year-old lefty has a putt from downtown for birdie on the 17th but leaves it well short and can't drain his third for par.

  6. Postpublished at 17:29 British Summer Time 14 June

    McIlroy -4, Schauffele -1, Scheffler +5 (16*)

Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler find the eight fairway, but Xander Schauffele is wayward again off the tee and this time finds some thick looking grass in the right rough.

He'll be lucky to have a shot from there.

  7. Hovland in troublepublished at 17:27 British Summer Time 14 June

    DeChambeau -3, Homa +6, Hovland +5 (15)

"No, no, no, no" shouts Viktor Hovland. He needs to end the final three holes flawlessly to give himself every chance of making the cut, but he's virtually certain to drop a shot on 16.

Hitting shots two and three on this par-four out of the rough, the third makes the front edge of the green, but does not sit up and rolls down the slope.

He will need another signature chip, hope to make bogey at best and then ideally, claw a shot or two back to finish this round.

  8. Postpublished at 17:24 British Summer Time 14 June

    McIlroy -4, Schauffele -1, Scheffler +5 (16*)

Rory McIlroy just misses a long birdie try on seven which would have given him a share of the lead - the ball just not turning in last minute as he expected.

Scottie Scheffler also just misses but his pace was a little bit off again, he's not had the speed of these greens at all.

  9. Detry takes share of the leadpublished at 17:23 British Summer Time 14 June

    Detry -5 (12*)

What a putt that is. Thomas Detry rolls in a slidey left-to-right effort from all of 20 feet to grab a share of the lead.

The 31-year-old Belgian looks to have really turned a corner in his career judging by what we are seeing here and what he produced at Valhalla

  10. Get Involved - Is Pinehurst too hard?published at 17:21 British Summer Time 14 June

There's been some grumbling among the golfing fraternity on social media about the test, in particular the greens, at Pinehurst just making it too tough and unfair for these players.

Then again, some are saying it should be tough, it's the US Open!

Five under leads, and you can plot your way around Pinehurst No.2 playing safe, but you're severely punished if you miss in the wrong spot, which is what this tournament is all about.

So do you think the US Open is too tough? Hit those thumbs to let us know...

  11. Matsuyama birdies three in a rowpublished at 17:21 British Summer Time 14 June

    Matsuyama -2 (14*)

A fourth birdie of the day and a third in as many holes for Japan's Hideki Matsuyama.

He is now up to joint-seventh and is only three shots off the lead.

The 32-year-old is also just four holes shy of completing a rare bogey-free round at Pinehurst No.2.

  12. Postpublished at 17:17 British Summer Time 14 June

    McIlroy -4, Schauffele -1, Scheffler +5 (15*)

Xander Schauffele tugs his tee shot on seven miles left - after carving it off miles right yesterday.. But he hits a nice escape from that gnarly wire grass and makes the front edge of the green.

Scottie Scheffler hits the back of the green but he's miles away and will need to land a bomb of a putt to get the birdie he needs.

  13. Bogeys for DeChambeau and Homapublished at 17:11 British Summer Time 14 June

    DeChambeau -3, Homa +6, Hovland +5 (15)

On the par-three 15th, Bryson DeChambeau, Max Homa and Viktor Hovland are all unable to find the green off the tea.

DeChambeau and Homa both chip out of the greenside bunker. DeChambeau lands within six feet, with Homa just over 20 feet back.

A rare short miss for DeChambeau, who lips out of the left side of the whole and drops back to three-under-par with a bogey.

Homa's par save is also off target and like DeChambeau, has to settle for bogey.

Hovland chips in to a few feet of the cup from off the green and putts well to make par.

  14. Three parspublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 14 June

    McIlroy -4, Schauffele -1, Scheffler +5 (15*)

Well, after the mental wreckage of the fifth hole is put aside, a relatively dull hole for this marquee group with three pars on what's a really tough long par three.

That's not enough as it stands for Scottie Scheffler to make the cut, but with conditions as they are you'd expect four over at least to be the eventual cut line - so he'll still need a birdie.

  15. Bogey for Fleetwoodpublished at 17:06 British Summer Time 14 June

    Hatton -1, Fleetwood +5 (15)

Tyrrell Hatton walks off the 15th with a par tucked in his pocket albeit he had a decent birdie chance there from inside nine feet.

His English playing partner and Ryder Cup teammate Tommy Fleetwood heads off with a disappointing bogey after taking three with his putter.

Fleetwood has not missed a cut in a major since, well, the US Open at the Country Club in 2022, but he looks like he could be in a bit of trouble here.

  16. Matsuyama flyingpublished at 17:03 British Summer Time 14 June

    Matsuyama -1 (13*)

Quietly having one of the rounds of the day is Japan's Hideki Matsuyama.

On one-under-par for the tournament and three-under-par for the day, Matsuyama is into the top 10, despite starting today seven shots off the lead on two-over-par.

Matsuyama is also chasing a rare bogey-free round at Pinehurst No.2, something which has only been achieved on six occasions at the US Open, including Sergio Garcia yesterday.

His round has been helped by back-to-back birdies on holes three and four.

  17. Scheffler staying for the weekend?published at 17:02 British Summer Time 14 June

    McIlroy -4, Schauffele -1, Scheffler +5 (14*)

Scottie Scheffler finds the green at least on the sixth and at five over he's currently two shots outside the cut line which is currently three over to make the weekend.

It's truly unchartered territory of late for the world number one, who has played 13 tournaments so far this season, won five and has a worst finish of T17.

  18. Double doubles..published at 16:57 British Summer Time 14 June

    McIlroy -4, Schauffele -1, Scheffler +5 (14*)

Yikes! Xander Schauffele and Scottie Scheffler are both just an absolute car crash on this hole, chipping up at the second attempt but then both taking three to get into the hole to both get double-bogey sevens.

Rory McIlroy actually lets out a mini fist pump as he rolls in a putt for par - meaning the best three players in the world play the easiest hole on the course in a combined four over.

It may be playing easy, but it's very much not an easy hole from where all these of this group found themselves.

Next up is the hardest hole on the course....

  19. Birdie for Detrypublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 14 June

    Detry -4 (10*)

Thomas Detry plays a sensational iron shot into three feet on the first to card his fourth birdie of the day.

The Belgian was the surprise package at the US PGA Championship last month where he finished fourth and is now up into a tie for second.

  20. Postpublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 14 June

    DeChambeau -4, Homa +5, Hovland +5 (14)

On the par-four 14th, Viktor Hovland has the chance for another birdie. A tougher chance from 24 feet has a great line, but stops just short.

Bryson DeChambeau chips onto the green with his third shot and needs to putt from seven feet to make par, which he does excellently.

Max Homa, who has struggled to be on the green in regulation all day, putts off the green to within five feet to set himself up for par.

The par putt goes around the side door, but does drop in.
