    We're off.

Kitzbuhel for Willie Mullins is the 3-1 favourite but it is close in behind with Home By The Lee and Strong Leader around 5-1.

Home By The Lee fell at the Cheltenham Festival so is looking for some compensation here. Strong Leader skipped Cheltenham with this in mind.

It’s the final race before the Grand National and as well as chasing victory, the jockeys who have a ride in the big race will be aiming to get home safely.

Strong Leader won last year and will be bidding for back-to-back successes for trainer Olly Murphy.

Teahupoo, who was second in the Stayers’ Hurdle at Cheltenham, is a late non-runner but his Gordon Elliott stablemate The Wallpark does run.

And there are strong claims too for Kitzhbuhel, for Willie Mullins and Home By The Lee for Joseph O’Brien.

Five minutes until our final race before the Grand National.

Favourite Teahupoo is a non-runner because of the ground, but this is still a hot race. Could be a cracker.

    1 Vanillier; 2 I Am Maximus; 3 Beauport; 4 Three Card Brag.

The better ground will help the 2023 runner-up Vanillier and he is well weighted. I Am Maximus has more weight this time but is built to carry it.

We know that the Grand National brings plenty of new people to the world of horse racing so we're going to help you understand some of the terminology and jargon/acronyms you'll hear/see throughout the day and on the racecard and in our pinstickers' guide.

    • 1-9 - position the horse finished
    • 0 - if the horse finished outside the top nine
    • - between numbers indicate season separation (i.e. left of this is from a previous season)
    • B or BD - brought down
    • D - disqualified
    • F - fell
    • P or PU - pulled up
    • R - refused
    • U - unseated rider
    • C - has won on this course
    • D - has won over this distance
    • CD - has won over this course and distance

Other words or phrases you may hear include fav or fave, which means the horse is the the favourite for the race, and NAP and NB. A nap is someone's best bet (i.e their most fancied horse) that day and NB is their "next best" fancy.

Winning jockey Stan Sheppard told ITV Racing after Cruz Control won the race for the second year in a row: "That meant the world. To win here again is special. He hasn't been in the same form as last year but he likes a bit of sun on his back and Tom [trainer Tom Lacey] hasn't rushed him. It is a great team effort to get him back here."

Imperial Saint is a horse who loves Aintree with two wins at the Liverpool track this season.

Trained by Philip Hobbs and Johnson White and ridden by Micheal Nolan, he has won over two miles and two miles four furlongs but this trip, which is over three miles, will be a test of stamina.

Sam Brown, trained by Anthony Honeyball, has a decent record in the race with a first and second in the past but at 13, his best days could be behind him.
