The Belfast Giants suffered a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Sheffield Steelers in Sunday's Elite League game.

After a scoreless first period, Jesse Schultz fired the Steelers ahead after meeting an Andreas Valdix pass.

Colin Shields levelled but four goals from the home side in the final 10 minutes settled the outcome.

Schultz found the net on the powerplay, then Guillaume Desbiens and Christoffer Bjorklund were on target, before Valdix completed the scoring on a powerplay.

The Giants had maintained their impressive Challenge Cup form by earning a 5-1 victory over Braehead Clan at the SSE Arena on Saturday night.

Goals from Blair Riley and Chris Higgins left Belfast 2-0 ahead after the opening period.

Matt Beka replied for Braehead only for in-form Mike Forney and Mark Garside to net again for Belfast before the end of the second period.

Chris Higgins hit his second goal of the night in the final period.

The Giants are next in action next weekend with back-to-back games on the road, taking on Coventry Blaze on Saturday and the Nottingham Panthers on Sunday.
