    "French club Lyon reject Newcastle's bid for their highly rated midfielder Clement Grenier. The Magpies had hoped to close out a deal for the 23-year-old before Friday's 23:00 GMT deadline, but the clubs remain some way apart.

    Crystal Palace striker Marouane Chamakh says he his confidence has increased, external since leaving Arsenal. The 30-year-old is relishing his return to the Emirates Stadium when the Eagles face Arsenal on Sunday.

    "I think I've got a lot more confident since coming to Palace though because I've had a lot more experience playing matches," adds Chamakh, who has scored four times in 22 league appearances for Palace since leaving the Gunners last August.

    "The team as a whole is feeling confident too after the midweek win over Hull and we are confident we'll be ready for the game against Arsenal." Chamakh scored eight times in 40 Premier League outings for Arsenal between May 2010 and August 2013.

    The British Olympic Association is recommending that its delegation wear "less overtly branded Team GB kit" during their journey to Sochi.

    In a statement, the BOA added that the safety and wellbeing of the delegation remains its number one priority and it is in daily contact with the relevant authorities in the UK, including the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

    French athletes at the Winter Olympics will be protected by French national police and gendarmerie special operations units in Sochi, the country's sports minister says.

    France are sending 116 athletes to the Games, and sports minister Valerie Fourneyron tells daily newspaper Le Parisien: "We have done some preparatory work with our experts and everything has been done to make sure our athletes and fans are safe. There will be maximal vigilance."

    The opening ceremony is on 7 February.

    New Everton loan signing Lacina Traore says he was "close" to joining West Ham United instead of the Toffees. The 23-year-old Ivory Coast striker has moved to Goodison Park from Monaco until the end of the season.

    "The way in which Everton play suits my technical ability," adds Traore, at a news conference ahead of Saturday's home match with Aston Villa. "There were also other clubs interested. It was quite close with West Ham, but Everton was my choice and I'm delighted with it."
