Former Manchester Untied goalkeeping coach Eric Steele has told BBC Radio 5 live that it is "probably best" for everyone that Rio Ferdinand leaves Manchester United.

"There's a new manager coming and I'm sure he'll want his own players in a new squad. Rio played limited football last year so it's probably best all round," says Steele.

"Rio will have options. He's stayed fit, he's a big student of the game, and he's also got other interests. When you get to this stage of your career you have to give yourself options and that's what he's done."
