Stoke boss Mark Hughes has expressed his frustration after the club failed for a second time to get a work permit for United States international Juan Agudelo.

The Potters completed the signing of former New England Revolution striker Agudelo on a free transfer in January, despite being denied a work permit for him in November.

Hughes now thinks that is "probably the end of it" and has suggested the club will not be trying to make any other non-EU signings any time soon.

Tom:, external Farewell Tim. I only hope Levy has a better replacement lined up or i'll be having words with him.

Becks Worswick:, external Daniel Levy should employ himself as manager - then he may realise how much damage he's doing by keep sacking managers.

Glenn Wheeler:, external As a Spurs fan I'm so embarrassed by how Sherwood's been treated! Honest, gutsy and passionate! Levy wrong again!

Lizzy Ammon, BBC Sport at the County Ground, Hove:

Durham are facing a very tough challenge in testing conditions with black clouds lurking over the County Ground. Sussex, having declared overnight, have bowled very tightly putting constant pressure on the Durham batsmen. Durham haven't helped themselves though with the inexplicable run out of Keaton Jennings who was called back for a ridiculous second run by his partner Scott Borthwick who has gone some way to making amends by moving very quickly to a half century. Durham are still a long way from the follow-on target of 356 and the ball is moving around. The rain that was threatening arrived 10 minutes before lunch with Durham 81/2.

BBC London 94.9's Kevin Hand and Middlesex v Lancashire:

After a start delayed for 30 minutes by rain, an early lunch has now been taken with the weather again intervening as Middlesex progressed to 300-3, leading by 34 runs in their first innings.

England hopeful Eoin Morgan has been frustrated in his push for a century as he is not out on 95, having resumed on 76 this morning.

The weather is set to provide constant interruptions throughout the day and further heavy rain appears to be on the way behind the Grandstand to the north west.

Andrew Hirsch:, external Spurs have not created a supportive environment for their managers. Until that changes, no one will succeed.

Simon Briscoe:, external Sherwood - 18 month contract with end of season opt out made it clear and fair from start that it wasn't definitely long term.

Simon Barber:, external I fear Spurs may struggle to replace Sherwood - who would want to work for such a notoriously trigger-happy chairman?

Maggie from Lowestoft on text: Tim Sherwood will make a good coach in time. His inexperience showed at spurs and I think Mr Levi and co always knew it was a stop gap appointment. For me Rafa Benitez should be front runner. Coped with all the huge egos at Chelsea and turned their season around.

  7. Rugby Leaguepublished at 12:52 British Summer Time 13 May 2014

England forward Brett Ferres will be aiming to make up for lost time when he returns from suspension for Sunday's Super League derby with Bradford at the Magic Weekend in Manchester.

The creative second rower, who was a big success for England in the World Cup, has not played since early April after being given a five-match ban for a dangerous throw, but says he will return fitter than ever after making good use of his enforced lay-off.

"It's been a long time," Ferres said. "The five weeks have dragged pretty slowly along so it's nice to back there and available for selection this week. I'm probably fitter and stronger now than I was before so it's been quite beneficial to me."

Gary Lineker:, external Tim Sherwood has been sacked by Spurs. He's opinionated, bombastic and refreshingly different. Hope to see him in charge of a PL club soon.

Fulham midfielder Pajtim Kasami missed the 23 after falling out of favour with his relegated club.

"We've had a lot of injuries but fortunately they got injured at the right time and not too close to the World Cup," Hitzfeld said.

BBC Sport's golf correspondent Iain Carter has said former world number one Martin Kaymer is back in the big time after winning the prestigious Players' Championship trophy.

"It is hard to underestimate just how impressive this victory in the PGA Tour's flagship tournament was," says Carter in his latest column.

"He led from start to finish after an opening 63 but it took the gutsiest of putts on the 71st green to realise the win he so desperately craved."

Sunderland head coach Gus Poyet is concentrating only on his summer transfer targets amid continuing speculation his days could be numbered.

Sources on Wearside moved to reiterate the Uruguayan's insistence at the weekend that he expects to be at the helm when the new season gets under way in August after reports suggested all is not well at the Stadium of Light.

Poyet said: "I have been talking to the people at the club, setting up things. I have finished the pre-season, everything is set, so I don't know, I don't know what I need to say."

    David Coulthard
    BBC Sport

BBC Sport's Formula 1 co-commentator David Coulthard believes the Spanish Grand Prix could be an important turning point in the season after Lewis Hamilton took the world championship lead for the first time.

"I like how hungry Hamilton was in his words," says Coulthard in his latest column for BBC Sport.

"In his own very gentle way, he is in that mode of, "I've won four, but that's not my season. My goal is not just to beat Nico [Rosberg], it's to crush him". Although he would never say that himself."

More from Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy on the departure of Tim Sherwood:

"Moving forward, now the season is over, we shall embark on the process of finding a new Head Coach. We have a talented squad and exciting young players coming through. We need to build on this season, develop our potential and inspire the kind of performances that we associate with our great Club."

Tottenham chairman, Daniel Levy, on the departure of Tim Sherwood as head coach:

"We appointed Tim mid-season as someone who knew both the players and the Club. We agreed an 18-month contract with a break clause at the end of the season and we have now exercised that option.

"Since appointing Tim as Assistant First Team Coach in 2008 and then as Technical Co-ordinator in 2010 and Head of Football Development in 2012, we have been supportive of him during football management changes throughout that period.

"On behalf of the Club, I should like to state our thanks for all his efforts during his years with us. We wish him great success in his managerial career."

Germany coach Joachim Loew is planning to see out his contract through to 2016 regardless of how his team fares at next month's World Cup in Brazil.

Loew, who took over from Jurgen Klinsmann after the 2006 World Cup, has led Germany to one final and two semi-finals in his three tournaments in charge.

He has yet to win an international title, however, with the success-starved Germans eager to end an 18-year title drought in Brazil.

"As it is at the moment, that is the case. For sure until 2016," Loew told Express newspaper on Tuesday when asked how long he would stay on. "This is what we have decided."
