Should England and the other European nations boycott the World Cup, as former FA chairman David Bernstein suggests?

Benjamin Lee:, external I don't know why it's taken England so long to boycott it, Wales and Scotland have been doing it for years.

Colin Livesey:, external Yes! England should join Scotland and Wales who do #worldcupboycott every time.

Ryan Thomson:, external Countries should take Scotland's stance when it comes to FIFA, we've been boycotting World Cups for nearly 20 years.

Right, we've got all the variations on that joke out of the way quickly. Actually, hold on - one more...

Snozzle Banger:, external I thought England boycotted World Cup 2014?

  3. Capello feeling the heatpublished at 09:30 Greenwich Mean Time 17 November 2014

If we were Fabio Capello today, we wouldn't be sitting too comfortably.

After Capello's Russia lost 1-0 to Austria in Saturday's Euro 2016 Group qualifier, the country's sports minister Vitaly Mutko promised 'widespread changes'.

"No one could have been happy with the result against Austria or the way our team played," Mutko said.

"We need to deeply analyse the situation. This will happen within the next few days and we will announce the decisions we have come to."

    Sounds ominous.

  4. Croatia offer an apologypublished at 09:23 Greenwich Mean Time 17 November 2014

Ugly scenes in the crowds married Italy's 1-1 draw with Croatia in Milan on Sunday.

Croatian coach Niko Kovac has apologised after the 2016 European qualifier was temporarily stopped in both halves by the referee after visiting fans threw fireworks and smoke bombs on to the pitch.

"I apologise to everyone, especially the Italians, for our supporters' behaviour," Kovac said.

"I was disappointed and helpless, there are no right words for this. If someone has a problem, he has to deal with it outside the stadium."

  5. Countdown to Scotland-Englandpublished at 09:15 Greenwich Mean Time 17 November 2014

There are a few fixtures in football guaranteed to get every pulse racing. Real Madrid v Barcelona, Celtic v Rangers, Bury v Rochdale. OK, so I might be on my own for that last one...

But Scotland v England has to be up at the top of the list and the build-up to Tuesday's showdown has begun in earnest.

Roy Hodgson has labelled the game 'exciting' and praised the Scottish fans. "They are exceptional, especially at Celtic Park," the manager said.

Read a few more of Hodgson's thoughts ahead of the big game.

  7. Murray and McEnroe team uppublished at 09:04 Greenwich Mean Time 17 November 2014

As disappointing as it was to miss out on the final everyone wanted to see, at least the fans inside the O2 Arena were given a treat before they went home.

After taking on Djokovic, British number one Murray then paired up with John McEnroe to beat Tim Henman and Pat Cash 8-6 in a doubles contest.

As usually happens, there were plenty of comical moments. Check out this video of one of the best bits.

  8. Federer pulls out of finalpublished at 08:59 Greenwich Mean Time 17 November 2014

The ATP World Tour Finals in London limped rather than sprinted to a finish after the withdrawal of Roger Federer with a back injury just a few hours before his eagerly-awaited showdown with Novak Djokovic.

It meant what would have been a mouthwatering clash between the world number one and two was cancelled and instead Djokovic faced Andy Murray in an exhibition match.

"The damage limitation exercise was a work of art" says BBC tennis correspondent Russell Fuller. "It was still, however, a hugely unsatisfactory end to a tournament which promised a thrilling duel between the two outstanding players of the year."

Here is Federer explaining his decision to the crowd at the O2 Arena.

Phil Taylor won a sixth Grand Slam of Darts title in Wolverhampton on Sunday and dedicated victory to his ill mother.

The 16-times world champion, 54, defeated Dave Chisnall 16-13 to claim the £100,000 first prize.

Speaking immediately after the final, Taylor said: "I'm going to take the trophy up to the hospital with me and leave it at my mum's bedside - she'll be asleep when I get there but it will be a nice surprise for her when she wakes up tomorrow.

"It's been very tough recently with her being in hospital, but this week's been a little bit of escapism. My mind goes blank for that two or three hours while I'm playing, and I've loved it."

  10. Huge win for under-pressure Hiddinkpublished at 08:48 Greenwich Mean Time 17 November 2014

Daley Blind may have picked up a worrying injury but aside from that it was all smiles for the Netherlands.

Their 6-0 win over Latvia was a huge result, not least for coach Guus Hiddink, who, after overseeing two defeats from three games, had threatened to quit if the Dutch lost to their Group A rivals.

Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben were among the scorers.

The Daily Telegraph front page is sure to fill Roy Hodgson, Wayne Rooney and co with delight. Scotland, it says, are planning to "kick lumps" out of England in tomorrow's international friendly. Sounds like it will not be one for the faint-hearted.

  15. 'We should boycott the World Cup'published at 08:18 Greenwich Mean Time 17 November 2014

One of the biggest stories of the day - on the BBC website now - is calls for the Football Association to lobby Uefa for a European boycott of the next World Cup.

Former FA chairman David Bernstein says it is time for "drastic" action against the governing body.

Bernstein argues European countries should threaten to pull out of Russia 2018, unless Fifa implements meaningful reform.

    Much more of this later.

  16. Stat attackpublished at 08:15 Greenwich Mean Time 17 November 2014

As we're talking about your man Bale, here's a couple of stats about him and Wales thanks to our friends at Opta.

Only Wayne Rooney (13) has had more shots on target than Gareth Bale (12) in the Euro 2016 qualifying. Attitude.

Wales ended a run of 22 away matches without a goalless draw with their result in belgium, their previous 0-0 on the road being in Germany, Nov. 2007. Durable.

  17. 'I'm massively proud' - Balepublished at 08:11 Greenwich Mean Time 17 November 2014

When it comes to Wales there is so much attention on Gareth Bale that it's easy to forget there are 10 other lads out there.

Then again that's what happens when you are the most expensive footballer in the world.

So here's the Real Madrid man, wearing a very fetching woolly hat, giving his thoughts on Wales' valuable point.

    All hail Wales.

A magnificent battling display at Belgium, ranked the fourth best country in world football, earned Chris Coleman's team a vital point and - though there's still a long way to go - puts them in a terrific position to qualify for Euro 2016.

Missed the game? Here's the match report from BBC Wales Sport's Dafydd Pritchard.
