    Scotland manager Gordon Strachan says England 'spooked' his players who may have been mentally fatigued in Tuesday's 3-1 friendly defeat in Glasgow.

    Strachan added that the past ten days overall was a success with the defeat of the Republic of Ireland in the European Championship qualifier on Friday.

    Matches between Leeds Rhinos and Bradford Bulls are always raucous affairs - but their only scheduled meeting in 2015 (after the Bulls were relegated from Super League) will be more celebratory.

    That's because the West Yorkshire rivals are taking part in England legend Jamie Peacock's well-earned testimonial.

    Peacock, 36, helped Bradford win three Grand Finals, two Challenge Cups and two world club titles between 1999 and 2005 before joining his hometown club Leeds in 2006.

    During his time at Rhinos, he has continued his success with five more Grand Final wins, two World titles and last year's Challenge Cup Final win. His testimonial will take place at Headingley on 25 January.

    In the FA Cup last night, Conference South side Concord Rangers held Mansfield Town, 44 places above them in the pyramid, 1-1 away from home in their rearranged first round game.

    Concord boss Danny Cowley was clearly pleased with his side's display, telling BBC Essex: "The boys have put a colossal effort in. I'm so proud of them. For the players to put the energy and the commitment that they did throughout the game was testament to their fitness and their will.

    "We got a standing ovation from their whole support and that means everything to us. We're a small club, we have a small support ourselves. We're not used to getting too many pats on the back, so tonight's a special night for everyone."

    Opener Aaron Finch hit 109 off 127 balls as Australia made an impressive 329-5 off their 50 overs in the third one-day international against South Africa on Wednesday in Canberra.

    Finch hit nine fours and three sixes before he was dismissed by part-time bowler AB de Villiers in the 41st over.

    Fellow opener David Warner scored 53 off 50 balls with six fours and two sixes in a first-wicket stand of 118 in 20 overs.

    Rafael Nadal says it is his goal to be fully fit for the Australian Open and competitive enough to challenge for a 15th Grand Slam title after undergoing surgery to remove his appendix.

    The 28-year-old has also battled knee, wrist and back problems, with doctors confirming his rehabilitation included stem cell treatment.

    "I have a month before Australia to get to my best level," said Nadal. "I hope to be healthy enough to work as much as I need and want, and if that happens I really feel confident I can come back strong."

    Former England goalkeeper David James' football memorabilia has been auctioned off after the star went bankrupt.

    The 44-year-old who played for Liverpool, Aston Villa, West Ham, Manchester City and Portsmouth, was declared bankrupt in May despite earning around £20m.

    An England shirt the player wore in the Three Lions' 1-0 World Cup win over Argentina in 2002 fetched £672.

    A Liverpool FC goalkeeper's jersey worn during the Reds' 1995/96 season sold for more than £160 while a Portsmouth No 1 top James wore in 2008 went for £480.

    Manchester United winger Angel di Maria was sent for x-rays after suffering a foot injury during Argentina's defeat but La Albiceleste boss Gerardo Martino said the problem was "nothing serious".

    Di Maria was caught on the top of his right foot by a challenge from Portugal counterpart Nani - who is on loan from United at Sporting Lisbon - during the first half of Tuesday's match at Old Trafford and needed treatment but was able to continue before being replaced around the hour-mark.

    "We don't think it is anything serious. It was quite a tough blow that he took," said Martino. "We are having a look at some X-rays, some images that have been taken but in spite of that we don't think it is too serious."

    Elsewhere, the atmosphere at Old Trafford was somewhat muted with a total of just over 41,000 spectators in attendance at the friendly between Argentina and Portugal.

    Although Lionel Messi outshone his Ballon d'Or rival Cristiano Ronaldo in the first 45 minutes before both men were substituted at the break, it was Portugal who took the honours with a 1-0 win.

    But one England player not involved last night has suffered more disappointment.

    Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has suffered a new injury setback in training and will have a scan on his thigh problem today.

    Sturridge has not played for his club since 31 August after which he injured his thigh on England duty. His first comeback was scuppered by a calf problem as he attempted to rejoin full training in October and could now face another spell out.
