  1. Goodbye

And that is it for a slightly extended Sportsday.

We now know the three players contending the Ballon d'Or this year, we know Yacine Brahimi was voted the best player in Africa by BBC viewers, we know Steven Gerrard has been offered a new contract at Liverpool but sadly for Leeds United fans, the future of the club's ownership is very much unknown.

For all the detail, have a read below and please join us from 08:00 GMT on Tuesday for lots of Premier League build-up. Thanks for all your tweets and messages today.

  2. Jones taken out of fire

    Football

Mike Jones has been handed fourth official duty for Aston Villa's clash with Leicester on Sunday following his testing afternoon in Manchester City's 3-0 victory at Southampton.

Referee Jones booked City striker Aguero for diving at St Mary's on Sunday, despite the Argentina hitman being clearly upended by Jose Fonte.

  3. Roche's kill, flick and volley

    Football

Stephanie Roche - of Peamount United - was earlier nominated as one of three contenders to win Fifa's Ferenc Puskas Award, given to the scorer of the best goal of the year.

Now in a moment which has enraged some BBC staff members, one of our team has put his head above the parapet and questioned whether the striker is actually that good.

This left some of us furious. What do you think? Watch the video of the strike on the BBC Sport homepage.

  4. Moimoi signing shows Leigh intent

    Rugby League

Paul Rowley, head coach of Championship side Leigh Centurions, says the arrival of prop Fuifui Moimoi on a one-year contract shows the club's ability to attract top talent.

Moimoi, who has represented New Zealand and Tonga at international level, spent 11 years playing in Australia's National Rugby League for Paramatta Eels.

"He will not only bring profile to our club off the field, but a huge presence and class on the field," said Rowley, who will be attempting to guide Leigh back into Super League in 2015.

  5. Poyet finds reffing too stressful and wants dialogue

    Football

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has called for Premier League referees to explain their decisions in post-match interviews.

The Uruguayan, who revealed he had to give up being referee in training because it was too stressful, says the move would help him, players and fans gain a better understanding of the job match officials do.

"If I see a referee being honest and analyse an action in a honest manner and give me a proper explanation, which is common sense, I wouldn't be bothered if he was my next referee a week later or two weeks later," Poyet told the You Are the Ref website.

  6. Yacine Brahimi reaction

  10. Hard to make excuses for Wolves - Jackett

    Football

Today may be 1 December but there is not much Christmas cheer around Molineux at the moment, as a run of four successive league defeats has seen Kenny Jackett's Wolves slip to 12th in the Championship table.

Speaking after Saturday's 4-0 defeat at Brentford, Jackett told BBC WM: "With a scoreline like that, it's hard to make excuses. The goals against column is poor and we're not scoring down the other end.

"We need to recognise what were doing wrong and do the basics better than we have been."

  11. Knee surgery to end Morris's season

    Football

Jas Grewal: Good to see Neuer on the Ballon d'Or list, Muller deserved it more than Messi to be honest.

James Hammond: The most deserving is the most unlikely in my opinion. Neuer should win, and not just because he won the WC. Best GK in years.

Ged Lynam: Steph Roche for Puskas award all day long. If Ronaldo or Messi had done it we'd be shown replays forever.

For those of you clinging on to the edge of your seat, Fifa are currently running through the 23-men still with hope of winning the 2014 Ballon d'Or.

There is some empowering music to back images of the big names but we wait eagerly for the list to be cut to three.

Pundits Christian Karambeu and former England women's manager Hope Powell are giving their take on it all, but the classic "it's so hard to pick" line is being trotted out more frequently than a horse at Aintree.

On the issue of the tables, Ferguson said: "We take players' concerns very, very seriously, and particularly when we're talking about playing conditions.

    Steven Gerrard

In his news conference before the trip to Leicester City, manager Brendan Rodgers said: "He's at the stage of his career where it's not so much the number of games he plays now, it's about the level of the game.

"No matter how good a player has been, once they're coming towards those final years of their career, then of course as a manager, you're having to taper that in where you think you can get the best out of the player."

Gerrard has played 18 games this season but was named as a substitute in Saturday's win over Stoke.

    Football

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says Uefa's Financial Fair Play rules have put the Blues at a disadvantage against long-standing top clubs.

    Jose Mourinho

The rules, which aim to prevent professional football clubs spending more than they earn, are a "contradiction" according to Mourinho.

"What happened really with the Financial Fair Play is a big protection to the historical, old, big clubs, which have a financial structure, a commercial structure, everything in place based on historical success for years and years and years," Mourinho, 51, told Eurosport-Yahoo.

Mourinho sold players such as Romelu Lukaku and David Luiz this summer in order to make purchases and balance Chelsea's books.

    Football

Former Leeds United manager Kevin Blackwell is sympathetic to the club's fans following the news owner Massimo Cellino has been disqualified by the Football League.

"I think it's just sad really for the club," he tells BBC Radio 5 live. "It's a massive football club that really for the past 10 years has been dragged through the doldrums. Administration - they can't seem to get the right owner and when they do there seem to be all sorts of problems.

  41. Qatar World Cup cannot clash with Games

    Football

The President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach says he has no reason not to believe Fifa president Sepp Blatter's pledge to ensure the 2022 World Cup does not clash with the Winter Olympics.

Qatar 22 cannot clash with the winter Olympics

Football's showpiece event, scheduled to be held in Qatar in January or February that year, will be controversially moved from the summer.

"A clash would be bad for the international audience who would have two major sports programmes broadcast worldwide, so the pubic's attention would be divided," says Bach.

"Also for the sponsors to manage, there are some that are common to Fifa and the IOC. To manage these two kind of programmes at the same time would be very difficult, so in the end there would be no winners."

"My only concern is going there with the players I have at my disposal and doing what we can to get the points on the board that we are hoping for.

"It's a club that I have a lot of affection for of course, but my priority is to go there and win the game for this club.

"We initially feared it may be eight weeks or so, so in that aspect we are pleased because it isn't as serious as first feared.

"Glenn (Whelan) is likely to be out for a couple of weeks too.

"He will certainly miss the game tomorrow.

"Phil Bardsley trained today and we feel he should be ok for the game on Tuesday."

"We offered our change kit, but they said they'd rather turn their shirts inside out," Redruth's head coach Steve Larkins told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"It wasn't the start of a National League Two game you'd expect - it was more of a school game. They did have numbers, but it was written on in biro on their backs."

Ben Dirs was BBC Sport's man at London's Excel centre to cover Tyson Fury's win over Dereck Chisora.

Fury won the British and European heavyweight titles after Chisora retired in the 10th-round, and now hopes to land a fight with with WBA, IBF and WBO champion Wladimir Klitschko.

There was also an excellent bout between Billy Joe Saunders and Chris Eubank Jr. Ben's full report of that fight is here.
