    Oldham will not invite convicted rapist Ched Evans to train with them, nor will they offer him a contract.

    Newspaper reports had linked the former Sheffield United and Manchester City striker with a move to Boundary Park.

    But the League One club said: "Oldham Athletic are aware of newspaper reports linking the club to Ched Evans."

    Scotland coach Grant Bradburn confirms Preston Mommsen will captain the side at next year's ICC Cricket World Cup.

    The Saltires chief has also announced Kyle Coetzer will be vice-captain for the tournament, which gets underway on 14 February in Australia and New Zealand.

    Hereford United are back in the High Court today for the fallen football club's latest appearance to defend themselves against a winding up petition brought against the club.

    The petition is being led by HM Revenue and Customs at the Royal Courts of Justice in The Strand, but a number of other major creditors have attached themselves to it.

    The Southern League club, expelled from the Conference in June, are due to be the first case heard on today's court listings which are due to get underway at 10:30 GMT. BBC Hereford and Worcester have a reporter in court and will report the outcome on air and online as soon as it comes through.

    American Jordan Spieth shot a course record at the Australian Open to win his first tournament since July.

    The 21-year-old has moved up to number 11 in the world as a result of his success, secured with an eight-under par round on the final day to take his score to -13 overall.

    That mark saw him finish six shots clear and he becomes the first American winner of the tournament since Brad Faxon in 1993.

    Australia's Neil Robertson won a deciding frame against England's Kyren Wilson on Sunday to reach round three of the UK Championship and paid tribute to compatriot Phillip Hughes.

    The Aussie cricketer died after being struck by a ball last week in a moment which shook the world of sport and Robertson joined in the 'put out your bats' tribute at the Barbican Centre in York.

    Queens Park Rangers have picked up seven points from nine at home but have six straight defeats to their name on the road.

    "There have been difficult fixtures," says Redknapp. "We had Villa at home, then a massive game against Leicester. We got a point against Man City so we are in good form at home, playing very well. I think we need to take some points away from home now, that's the key for us.

    "There are eight or nine in a relegation battle in my opinion who could get sucked into it. I think we have as good a chance as any of staying in the division."

    As well as criticising a lack of atmosphere at the venue staging the tournament - the York Barbican - the 39-year-old five-time world champion also called the tables "shocking".

    It is being reported in Australia that the new Test schedule for the series witht India will be Adelaide 9 December, Brisbane 17 Dec, Melbourne 26 Dec, Sydney 6 January.

    Cricket Australia has been in talks with its India counterparts to determine when the Tests would be played following the death of Phillip Hughes.

    The match in Brisbane had been due to begin on Thursday but is on hold.

    "We will advise fans as a priority. They should simply hold on to their tickets until further notice," said Cricket Australia.

    The funeral of Hughes, 25, who died last Thursday two days after being hit by a ball, will be on Wednesday.

    Manager Brendan Rodgers also hints Liverpool may look to use Steven Gerrard in a different role to last season when the Reds captain operated as a deep midfielder.

    Rodgers tells his news conference ahead of a visit to Leicester City on Tuesday that changes in the club's attacking options has forced a re-think on Gerrard's role.

    "With the players we had up front, his quality could exploit that," says Rodgers. "The dynamic up front has changed so I have to think of a restructure so we look at a different type of midfielder to come in."

    Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers confirms the club have offered Steven Gerrard a new contract and says the captain now needs time "to consider" the offer.

    Gerrard's current deal expires at the end of the season.

    "Firstly in terms of the club the latest is that Steven Gerrard and his representatives have been offered a contract here and at this moment in time that's where it's at," says Rodgers.

    "It certainly won't be money. I've spoken to him enough times at length and that won't be the case. Between now and the end of the season he deserves the opportunity to think."
