    "Following the reports in the Daily Mirror this morning, external about Sol Campbell becoming a coach at Ajax, I have spoken to Campbell, and he says the story is nonsense. He is spending the week with Ajax for one of the final modules of his coaching course.

    "This module requires candidates to immerse themselves in an overseas club, so he is doing training sessions, presentations, paperwork, meetings with the likes of Dennis Bergkamp, Marc Overmars and Edwin Van der Sar.

    "The Daily Mirror story suggests there's a link between Japp Stam possibly leaving and Campbell coming, but Campbell doesn't think Stam is leaving and says he is purely there for his badges, neither him or Ajax are thinking about anything else."

    Walsall are now just two games away from a first-ever trip to Wembley, reports BBC WM.

    The Saddlers came back from two down to draw 2-2 with Tranmere Rovers in last night's Johnstone's Paint Trophy Area semi-final at Prenton Park, before winning 5-4 in the penalty shootout.

    "This is a massive opportunity for us," said Walsall centre-half Paul Downing, who struck the winning penalty to put his side through to next month's two-leg regional final against Notts County or Preston.

    Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti hailed his "extraordinary" team after they set a new Spanish record of 19 straight victories with Tuesday's 4-0 triumph over Ludogorets Razgrad.

    "It is a result we have achieved with extraordinary seriousness and an incredible amount of professionalism," the former Chelsea and PSG boss said. "I know that I have an extraordinary group of players.

    "I have a very good relationship with the players. I care a lot for them and I thank them for the work they're doing as much as I can."

    Meanwhile, Steve Smith praised inspirational skipper Michael Clarke's "unbelievable" strength and courage after the pair scored centuries in Australia's 517-7 against India in Adelaide.

    Clarke was a close friend of Phillip Hughes, the Australian batsman who died two days after being hit by a ball in a match in Sydney and comforted the Hughes family, delivered a tribute at his funeral and acted as a pallbearer.

    "Just the strength and courage he has shown through those times was unbelievable," Smith said. "He must be mentally drained coming into this game but the way he played speaks the world of that guy. He came out here and tried to do something for Hughesy and he certainly did that."
