  1. FA Cup previewpublished at 20:06 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2015

    BBC Radio 5 live

Former Manchester United defender Phil Neville on the Red Devils withdrawing from the FA Cup in 2000: "Sir Alex Ferguson got us all in the dressing room and told us the FA wanted us to go to Brazil for the Club World Cup but it meant we had to pull out of the FA Cup or play a youth team in it. I never forget all the lads stood up and said 'we can't pull out of the FA Cup'.

"I remember Andy Cole saying 'we have got to play a youth team, we can't not play in the FA Cup'. And that's what all the players wanted."

  2. FA Cup latestpublished at 20:04 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2015

The clock has just ticked past the 15-minute mark in each of tonight's FA Cup matches - and both Cardiff v Colchester and MK Dons v Chesterfield remain goalless.

  3. FA Cup previewpublished at 19:58 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2015

Huddersfield forward Sean Scannell is hoping to shake off a foot injury and Nahki Wells is pushing for a start after his late winner against Bolton.

Joel Lynch (groin) stays sidelined and Grant Holt's loan from Wigan has ended.

Reading welcome back midfielder Danny Guthrie from a calf problem and striker Jamie Mackie could start after making a substitute appearance against Norwich.

Pavel Pogrebnyak, Anton Ferdinand (both calf) and Hope Akpan (shoulder) are set to miss this FA Cup third-round tie.

The referee at Cardiff checks his watch and then blows his whistle. The official at MK Dons does the same. And that means both Cardiff v Colchester and MK Dons v Chesterfield are under way.

If you want goal updates from those matches then stay right here. And don't forget you can also watch the live action from the Welsh capital on this page.

They are both goalless by the way.

  5. FA Cup previewpublished at 19:48 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2015

    BBC Radio 5 live

Dover boss Chris Kinnear says "it does not matter" to his Conference club whether prospective Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew is sat in the opposition dugout or not.

"Different managers have different tactics but we just get on with. We're on good run - unbeaten in 16 games. Bring it on," he says.

"It is the biggest game in Kent for 30-odd years, I don't think a Conference side has hosted a top-flight club in that time. It is massive for Dover and Kent as a whole."

  7. FA Cup previewpublished at 19:42 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2015

    BBC Radio 5 live

Former Manchester United, Everton and England defender Phil Neville: "As a player I used to love the third round of the FA Cup. You come off the Christmas period when you're on your knees then the FA Cup comes to pick you up.

"I always found it better when you were playing lower league away from home. At Everton, we went to Macclesfield who I think were 92nd in the league and they gave us probably the toughest game in the year we went to the final."

    BBC Radio 5 live

Former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier says he promoted Steven Gerrard to the Reds' first-team squad after seeing him play just once as a 17-year-old.

"I went to watch an Under-19 match and he was playing in midfield," says the Frenchman, who gave Gerrard his debut in November 1998.

"The next day I asked him to join the professional squad. He was running box to box, shouting at his team-mates, he was a natural born leader. He was very efficient and influential on the game."

  13. Gerrard departurepublished at 19:19 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2015

    BBC Radio 5 live

Former Manchester United and England defender Phil Neville: "When Bryan Robson left Manchester United I thought the club was going to collapse but it moved on. I thought the same when Eric Cantona left United, but the club moved on. But in Liverpool's case, after Gerrard and Carragher, I wonder who is going to be the figurehead in the dressing room, who can carry the mantle. It is important you keep these figureheads at a club."

  16. Gerrard departurepublished at 19:11 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2015

    BBC Radio 5 live

Former England defender Phil Neville: "Steven Gerrard had that unbelievable ability to carry a team on his own, not through shouting and bawling, but through his own performance.

"I think Liverpool are missing a trick here by letting someone so inspirational leave - they should be offering him a contract for life. He should be the manager in three or four years' time."

Doncaster have injury concerns over midfielder Richie Wellens (hamstring) and forwards Kyle Bennett (thigh) and Nathan Tyson (calf).

Bristol City hope to be able to field on-loan Fulham striker Matt Smith when they visit their League One rivals.

They also have doubts over Kieran Agard (ankle) and Aaron Wilbraham (hip), but Chelsea loanee Todd Kane can play.

Smith, who has scored three times in his last two games, was not allowed to play in the second-round win against Telford but Robins boss Steve Cotterill has asked Fulham if they will let the striker feature against Doncaster.
