    In case you weren't aware, it's January, which means transfer window time and some early business has been done by Swansea City.

    The Swans have completed a deal for midfielder Matt Grimes from League Two side Exeter City, external on a four-and-a-half year contract for an undisclosed fee.

    It's believed to be in the region of £1.75m.

    In case you have been otherwise occupied earlier today, the big sporting news of the day is that Steven Gerrard is to leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

    Former Gillingham manager Peter Taylor says the timing of his sacking came as a surprise.

    He was dismissed by chairman Paul Scally on Wednesday despite winning two of their last four games in League One.

    Scally has said he wants a "younger, more flamboyant manager", but Taylor told BBC Radio Kent: "There's lots of different managers and styles out there. Yes, I am 62 on Saturday but I am still young enough and fit enough to be a manager. I think it was a little below the belt."

    The last of John Motson's top 10 FA Cup third round upsets comes from 2011.

    League Two Stevenage were the hosts of Premier League Newcastle United - a side they had been drawn against several years previous when in the Conference.

    Back then, Giuliano Grazioli secured a fourth round replay at St James' Park in 1998 when his equaliser stunned the Magpies.

    But, there was nothing surprising about the manner of their 3-1 victory 13 years later.

    Goals from Stacy Long, Michael Bostwick (pictured above) and Peter Winn capped a dominant display from the home side.

    Chiek Tiote saw red for Alan Pardew's side who only had a Joey Barton consolation goal to show for their efforts.

    Southampton defender Maya Yoshida has agreed a new three-year deal at the club.

    The 26 year-old has been with Southampton since August 2012, making 60 appearances and scoring three goals.

    He will miss the next few weeks for his club as he represents Japan at the 2015 Asian Cup.

    A reminder that we will be hearing very shortly from new West Brom manager Tony Pulis as he faces the media for the first time since his appointment.

    Earlier, the 56-year-old took training for the first time before his new side's FA Cup third round tie against Gateshead on Saturday.

    Africa Cup of Nations hosts Equatorial Guinea have appointed Esteban Becker as coach to replace Andoni Goikoetxea.

    Equatorial Guinea moved quickly after opting not to renew Goikoetxea's contract, which expired on 31 December.

    Argentine Becker, 50, will have just over two weeks with the team before they kick off the Nations Cup against Congo on 17 January.

    He was previously in charge of Equatorial Guinea's women's team, who he led to the 2012 Nations Cup title.

    It is time for number nine in John Motson's top 10 FA Cup third round upsets.

    Shrewsbury Town were given little chance of upsetting the form book when they were drawn against Premier League Everton in the third round in 2003.

    Everton's most successful captain Kevin Ratcliffe was in charge of the Shrews, but a certain 17-year-old named Wayne Rooney was also tearing through defences in the blue of Everton.

    But, Shrewsbury's 34-year-old captain Nigel Jemson opened the scoring with a stunning free-kick and although Niclas Alexandersson equalised for David Moyes's side, Jemson struck again with a header to make it 2-1 to send the Shrews into the fourth round and the crowd at Gay Meadow delirious.

    Everton captain Phil Jagielka believes it is up to the club's under-performing players to take the heat off manager Roberto Martinez after they suffered their fourth defeat in a row against Hull on New Year's Day.

    "It's not a good place to be right now because if you were an honest Evertonian you wouldn't be confident in us keeping clean sheets and you wouldn't be confident in us scoring too many goals," said the England international.

    "That's not a good combination but we've got some good players and some good characters so we need to come to the party.

    "At the end of the day we go out there to play and if we don't pick up results, the manager will take a bit of the blame but the players have to go out there and perform. We've got a lot to answer for and the only way we can make it up to the fans is by winning games."

    Only three to go in John Motson's top 10 FA Cup third round upsets.

    For number eight, we go back to January 1992 and a game which paired top against the very bottom from the previous season's football league table.

    Champions Arsenal travelled to Wrexham, who had finished bottom of the old fourth division the previous May.

    When Wrexham found themselves 1-0 behind early on, few would've predicted the outcome.

    Mickey Thomas, the 37-year-old Welsh winger, stepped up to take a free-kick, just outside the penalty area.

    It flew past David Seaman into the top corner and then striker Steve Watkin struck two minutes from time to give Wrexham their David versus Goliath moment and a 2-1 victory.

    A quick bit of news from Rugby Union now and Sam Burgess will start at outside centre for Bath in their Premiership match at Leicester on Sunday.

    Burgess will partner England international Kyle Eastmond in midfield, despite Bath's director of rugby Mike Ford recently saying he wants to see Burgess play in the back row of the scrum.

    Burgess made a high-profile switch to union from Rugby League in October.

    Despite the financial blow of missing out on the Champions League, Manchester United have announced a freeze on season ticket prices for the fourth year in a row.

    The club have announced the prices for the 2015-16 campaign and the rise in commercial income from sponsors has allowed the club to freeze prices once more for the fifth time in six years.

    United said in a statement: "The club is delighted to announce that season ticket prices have been frozen for the 2015-16 season. This represents the fourth consecutive season, and the fifth time in six years, that prices have been held."

    Into the early 1990's for our seventh moment in John Motson's top 10 FA Cup third round upsets and the tale of an estate agent, part-time international cricketer and non-league goalscoring striker.

    Tim Buzaglo was the hero of the hour for seventh-tier Woking as they beat then Second Division West Brom 4-2 at The Hawthorns.

    Buzaglo scored a hat-trick in the space of 15 second-half minutes to turn the tie on its head after Woking were 1-0 down at the break.

    Match of the Day pundits Robbie Savage and Martin Keown have reacted to the news Steven Gerrard will leave Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of the season.

    Savage says Gerrard is Liverpool's best ever midfield player and believes the time is right for the captain to move on.

    The former England skipper, who made his Liverpool debut in 1998, will not move to another English club.

    The 53-year-old from Stockport takes on Scott Mitchell in the first round on day one of the competition.

    Time for another of John Motson's top 10 FA Cup third round upsets - where we've reached number 6.

    In January 1989 Coventry City were still rightfully basking in the glory of their first ever FA Cup final triumph 19 months earlier.

    But, when they were drawn against Conference side Sutton, little would have prepared them for the upset which followed.

    Sutton took the lead when Tony Rains headed home in the 42nd minute before David Phillips equalised seven minutes into the second half.

    Just before the hour mark, Matthew Hanlan volleyed Sutton into the history books as they went on to complete a 2-1 win.

    It was not until Luton shocked Norwich 24 years later that another non-league side managed to beat a team from the highest division in the FA Cup.
