    Christie became the European Short Track Speed Skating champion for the first time on Sunday after winning the 500m and 1500m and finishing second in the 3000m super final.

    The 34-year-old holds the record of 342 for the most sixes in the history of one-day internationals.

    Paco Alcacer and Jose Gaya have been offered news contracts by Valencia to head off interest from the Premier League.

    Spain international striker Alcacer, 21, is close to signing a five-year extension that will raise his buy-out clause from euro 15m (£11m) to euro 59m (£44m), while 19-year-old left-back Gaya is also in talks over new terms.

    The BBC has chosen not to show the full banner which depicted a man in a mask holding a sword and a cartoon of Steven Defour's severed head with the words 'Red or Dead'

    We've all seen an angry fella brandishing a bit of A4 paper with a message scrawled on it, or even another waving an old bedsheet around, but some Standard Liege fans took football banners to a whole new level to greet the return of former player Steven Defour on Sunday.

    A banner showing his decapitated head alongside the words 'Red or Dead' greeted the Belgian midfielder, who left Standard for Porto in 2011 before signing for Anderlecht in August of last year.

    The 26-year-old Belgium international was sent off in the second half of the game and Anderlecht were beaten 2-0.

    Italian World Cup winner Alberto Gilardino has returned to Fiorentina on loan from Chinese Super League club Guangzhou Evergrande.

    The 32-year-old striker moved to China from Genoa in the summer, having scored 59 goals in 143 appearances for the Florence club between 2008 to 2012.
