    Rory McIlroy has made an impressive start at the Dubai Desert Classic, a run of four birdies in six holes moving him into a share of the lead.

    With just one hole of his opening round remaining, McIlroy sits top of the leaderboard alongside Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts and England's Andy Sullivan.

    The world number one has finished second in his last three events and, in Dubai, is returning to the scene of his first professional win six years ago, and a place where he has secured four consecutive top-10 finishes.

    If you are a Manchester United supporter and were thinking of giving the FA Cup replay against Cambridge a miss, then you might want to think again.

    According to today's Daily Mail, external, the club have warned fans that if they don't buy a ticket for the game, they will have their season tickets suspended.

    The club have written to those who have not yet paid out for the televised fourth-round clash with the League Two side and told them if they don't buy a ticket, as stipulated in their season ticket contract, they will not be allowed entry to next month's Premier League home fixture against Sunderland.

    And while we're tennis-ing - to invent a new word - there has been women's semi-final action overnight, with Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova emerging victorious.

    World number two Sharapova won an all-Russian contest against Ekaterina Makarova 6-3 6-2.

    Meanwhile, Williams, the top seed, converted her ninth match point to beat fellow American Madison Keys 7-6 (7-5) 6-2.

    Just how confident Sharapova will be going into the final is open to debate - the Russian has a 2-16 record against Williams and has not beaten the American since 2004.

    Nigel Clough looked gutted afterwards but quite rightly said he was "incredibly proud" of his Sheffield United side and their League Cup exploits.

    League One Sheffield United were leading 2-1 and two minutes from taking Tottenham to extra time in the side's League Cup semi-final.
