"I'm not sure what that says about him to be honest. We have acquitted ourselves well in big games on the road this season, and we want to go down to London and put in another good performance. It will be incredibly difficult because they have world class players and they have an outstanding man in charge."

  50. Hull news conference

    Football

Hull boss Steve Bruce on club name change: "The owner's views will not change, we have to respect that. For what he has done for the club, and put it on the map, and put his hard earned money, he is entitled to have his opinion.

"Hopefully there is a middle ground but we have to put it to one side. We want Hull City/Hull Tigers in the Premier League next season. That is the main aim. If we have to play in in pink shirts and frilly knickers, then we might complain. It will rumble on."

    Football

More from Hull City boss Steve Bruce on Greg Dyke's proposals for quotas of English players in squads: "If you are going to do a job properly, you have to look at the football club as a whole and see if we can produce a younger player. I remember Jordan Henderson who became the flag-bearer at Sunderland and was terrific for all concerned.

"Yesterday, I let six young players go and that is awful. More are going out than coming in. The standard of what we are looking for has gone up. Young players that are playing in Scotland has benefited them. It is a problem. Manchester United, who have they produced all them young players, who have they produced since? "We know that if we perform at our maximum at home, we've still got a chance. Away games against sides near us are very important too."

"We've got to win games and stay positive, but we've got to strike a balance between that and staying in games. It is no longer about staying in touch, we've got to make moves. We need to maximise our opportunities at home. That is pivotal."

"My focus is purely on his football," he said.

"That's my only concentration. I have said the intention of the player and the club was to put [talks] on hold.

"Raheem's ambition is to win trophies and that's perfectly aligned with what we're trying to do. This is one of the great clubs.

"I'm quite relaxed on it. It's part of the modern game. Raheem still has a lot of improvements to make. This is great place for him."

  57. Southampton news conference

    Football

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman on Everton:

"It's a tough test because Everton deserve to be higher because I like the way they play football. I like the way manager Roberto Martinez is doing his job. It's been a difficult season and one of the reasons is because they play in Europa League and as well as travelling they risk having players injured.

"But now they are more confident after two wins, we play a little the same the way we play is about winning not controlling and defending, making it more open.

    Champions League next season?

"It is difficult because of distance in points. If we win next two or three game it is still a fight. It's more for big teams, but we will try. We have eight finals and this season so far is fantastic and if European football then it will be a special one for the club."

  58. Southampton news conference

    Football

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman speaking ahead of Saturday's trip to Everton.

"He is down, I spoke with him last week after the operation and he is ok, but he will be out for a long time - at least for this season. It is difficult to say how long. He is fantastic goalkeeper, was and is the number one for us, but like every player you need a good substitute and Kelvin Davies is a very experienced goalkeeper.

On Italy's Graziano Pelle scoring against his England:

"I hope it will give him a lift. He's doing well for the team, but it's always about scoring goal for strikers and his goal against England was a good goal."

    Moeen Ali

Moeen Ali is planning to join England for the latter stages of their Test tour of the West Indies, as his side injury continues to improve.

The all-rounder hurt himself during England's failed World Cup campaign, and was therefore not available when the selectors chose the Caribbean squad.

"I'm hoping to play that game against Yorkshire, prove my fitness and fly immediately afterwards," he told Cricinfo.

QPR manager Chris Ramsey: "We've been in the fortunate position to be manager of QPR. Hopefully, we're not looking at that as a token gesture.

He added: "If it doesn't work out for me here - any manager of any race - you are always in a position where it is difficult to get another job. We left Tottenham and I was seven months out of work. As a black man it's always going to be difficult anyway."

    QPR manager Chris Ramsey

QPR manager Chris Ramsey has been quite strong on the lack of black managers in English football.

Director of football at the club, Les Ferdinand recently said that covert racism was rife and preventing ethnic minorities from gettng top jobs in football.

Ramsey said he agreed with Ferdinand.

"We're still at this stage in the game we are highlighting I'm still the only black Premier League manager," he said. "It's not the norm to have ethnic minority managers in this position."

  137. Everton news conference

    Football

A last bit from Roberto Martinez, who was asked if the club will sign Barcelona wonderkid Gerard Deulofeu, who enjoyed a successful loan spell at Everton last season.

The Spaniard is currently on loan at Sevilla, but will be sold by the Catalan giants in the summer.

"He is a phenomenal footballer who enjoyed his time at Goodison Park. I can't really comment on whether we would be interested."

Ronnie Hutchison: Over rated, offload him now and cash in. Watch him spend more time warming the bench for his next club and hopefully Rodgers will use the cash sensibly to invest.

David Shenston: He wants to move to a bigger club where they win trophies. That's why he wants out at Liverpool.

Harry James Peter: I say let him go for the highest amount we can and sign a quality winger in place of him. He's not performing as well as he used to.

  139. Everton news conference

    Football

Everton boss Roberto Martinez was asked if the club is already looking to next season?

"It would be a big mistake. There are 24 points still to play for and we want to fight to get as high as possible in the table. We have five home games and three away games and we want to make the most of that home advantage.

"We have won our last two games, which have given us confidence and belief, and we want to continue that momentum."

  140. Everton news conference

    Football

Roberto Martinez has also talked about Ross Barkley's impressive impact for England.

"He is used to having to deal with extremes. When he is playing well he's called the best footballer in England, but when he has a bad game, it changes. What is true is that he has an incredible level of maturity," said the Spaniard.

"He's learned a lot having come through a serious injury (knee) and it doesn't surprise me that he made a good impact coming off the bench in both England's games. "I think he is a better player for that experience of the injury.

"Ross is one who takes responsibility in big moments of games and has developed that physicality as well. There are not many footballers in Europe with the same level of ability."

"Manager Ronald Koeman has done exceptionally well. They are physically strong and well organised. Defensively they have the best record in the league and there are reasons for that. Their foreign players have done really well and that's a reflection of the way they enjoy working in that environment. It tells you a lot."

As Arsene Wenger said, Arsenal can only win their matches and hope Chelsea slip up.

On Saturday the Gunners face Liverpool, who suffered a blip in their bid to win a Champions League spot with a pre-international break defeat by Manchester United.

Wenger added: "I have a big respect for Liverpool, but I am focused on the game and producing the performances we have done recently."

On Reds captain Steven Gerrard, who misses out from Saturday's match after his sending off against Manchester United, Wenger added: "When Liverpool were in trouble everyone looked towards him and nine times out of 10 he got them out of it."

Arsene Wenger was asked the inevitable question about his team's chances of winning the title.

"What is mathematically possible you have to try to achieve but that's not all down to us. We can only master our own performances," he said.

  155. '540-degree flying flip'

    Horse Racing

Did you catch the clip of jockey Lewis Ferguson's spectacular fall at Wincanton? He should look to make the GB gymnastics team for Rio.

Anyway, BBC Sport's Frank Keogh says:

"Ferguson was back riding on Thursday, 14 hours after emerging unscathed.

"Ferguson and his horse Merrion Square were unhurt despite what the Washington Post called the rider's "540-degree flying flip.

"The jockey said he felt 'fine' and was riding out at the stables of eight-time champion trainer Paul Nicholls on Thursday morning."

More from England head coach Peter Moores:

"For me Kevin's not on this trip, so I don't need to focus on Kevin at all.

"My focus is to support Alastair [Cook] as I always would and the 16 players on this tour. At the end of that summer (last year) we'd gone through a tough summer, and started to play the sort of attacking cricket people like, and we like.

"That's our focus at the moment. From my point of view Kevin isn't on the radar. He can't be in my or Cooky's focus at all."

Ex-Liverpool defender John Scales believes Raheem Sterling's stalling over signing a new Reds contract is over money.

The BBC's Natalie Pirks spoke to the winger, who confirmed he turned down a new £100,000-a-week deal.

Scales told BBC Radio 5 live that it was partly about the money.

Scales also questioned advice Sterling is receiving from his advisor and says he needs to get advice from as many people as possible.

  161. Ex-England bosses call for change

    Football

    England coach Kevin Keegan

And let's just stay with the England national team just that little bit longer.

    This from the Daily Telegraph:

Five former England managers warn that England's chances of winning the World Cup again will be damaged if the national game does not quickly unify behind Football Association Greg Dyke's proposed new reforms.

Glenn Hoddle, Kevin Keegan, Sven Goran Eriksson, Graham Taylor and Steve McClaren have signed a joint letter to Dyke in which they advocate the swift implementation of new proposals that will increase club opportunities for young English players.

"Failure to do so risks England falling further behind the leading football nations and will only make it harder to end the long wait to win the World Cup," the managers write.

    Harry Kane

We did wave farewell to international week, but before it walks off into the sunset let's call it back for just a few more moments.

Apparently, England coach Roy Hodgson says Tottenham's Harry Kane - who, judging by the nationwide fawning, is closing in on a knighthood - wants to play in the Under-21 European Championship this summer.

Hodgson said: "Harry wants to go with the Under-21s. He wants to finish the job that he has done."

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has suggested that Kane, 21, might benefit from resting this summer.
