  4. Figo questions CAF support for Blatterpublished at 12:22 British Summer Time 8 April 2015

    Luis FigoImage source, Reuters

Former Portugal midfielder Luis Figo does not believe the Confederation of African Football's claim that all 54 votes from the continent will go to Sepp Blatter in the Fifa presidential elections in May.

Figo, along with Prince Ali bin Al Hussein of Jordan and the Dutch football association president Michael van Praag, is standing against current incumbent Blatter.

"I feel there's a lot of respect for CAF among all the African federations but I'm positive that (CAF president) Mr (Issa) Hayatou did not speak in the name of the 54 members of the confederation.

"Even when he (Hayatou) announced he would support Blatter, we could notice a difference from past congresses when a statement like that normally is followed by a standing ovation.

"This time we heard just a normal applause, which confirms my idea that a lot of African countries understand and agree with the need to change for the better of everyone, especially the national associations."

European Professional Club Rugby said that Burger is alleged to have struck Racing scrum-half Maxime Machenaud midway through the match at Stade Yves-du-Manoir, which Saracens won 12-11.

The complaint was made by match citing commissioner Eugene Ryan and Namibia international Burger, 31, will face a disciplinary hearing on Thursday.

    David Ornstein
    BBC Sport

"Roy Keane has pleaded not guilty over an alleged road-rage incident.

"The former Manchester United midfielder and current Republic of Ireland assistant manager did not attend Trafford Magistrates' Court this morning to hear a charge of a Section 4A Public Order Offence read out.

"His lawyer Virginia Hayton entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

"The court was told the 43-year-old is accused of causing harassment, alarm or distress by using threatening or insulting words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour to a taxi driver.

"The case was adjourned until 19 June at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court.

"Chair of the bench Susan Craig said Mr Keane should attend on that date or a trial would go ahead in his absence."

Jenson Button believes McLaren now have their rivals in their sights ahead of this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix.

The team has endured a difficult start to the season but Button believes the McLaren car's pace is picking up.

"We need and want more downforce to fight with the guys around us, and we still have a lot to do with the power unit, but our basic car is good," he says.

"If you look at our high-speed pace, compared to the Force India and Sauber, then we are much stronger.

"So we're moving in the right direction, and I'm already surprised we are racing cars. It's great to see."

  19. 'Derby can still reach top two'published at 10:47 British Summer Time 8 April 2015

The 26-year-old's absence coincided with a run of two wins in ten until he scored in Saturday's win at Wigan.

"It hass been difficult for us as players and for those watching, but it can galvanise you," he told BBC Radio Derby.

  20. 'Europe taking to snooker'published at 10:39 British Summer Time 8 April 2015

Steve 'Interesting' Davis has been in the BBC Sport studio in Salford chatting, surprisingly, about snooker.

Asked about his thoughts on the game compared to how it was in his day, the former six-time world champ says "I see it on a more of a worldwide scale than it used to be.

"The game has broken free of the UK. Slowly the game has got footholds in so many different countries now that I think it is truly global. Not America or Japan but a lot of Asia and Europe watches snooker. It's not so dependent on the UK as it used to be.

"The biggest amount of people watching now that we never had before is in Europe. I don't think anybody could have envisaged that countries where there has not historically been any interest in the game like Germany, Bulgaria and Poland have started to like what they see. It's a new sport to them and they are embracing it."
