    Exeter City have the potential to get promoted to League One, according to new signing Manny Oyeleke.

    The 22-year-old midfielder was Exeter's first signing of the summer after he was released by Brentford last month.

    British Cycling was "too involved" in Sir Bradley Wiggins' hour record bid, says the coach of fellow Briton Alex Dowsett, the man whose record he beat.

    Steve Collins alleged the governing body helped design parts of Wiggins' bike, which he felt was "not allowed".

    Asked if he thought British Cycling preferred one rider to another, Collins told BBC Essex: "Oh yes, completely."

    But a British Cycling (BC) spokesperson said Dowsett "had technical and operational support from BC personnel".

    Wiggins, 35, completed a distance of 54.526km (33.88 miles) at Lee Valley VeloPark in London on Sunday, smashing Dowsett's mark of 52.937km (32.89 miles) that had been set in May.

    Seeded players Karin Knapp and Ajla Tomljanovic lost in the first round of the Nottingham Open as top-level women's tennis returned to the central England grass-court venue for the first time in 42 years.

    The fourth-seeded Knapp lost 6-4, 6-2 to Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium, and Tomljanovic, the number eight seed from Croatia, was beaten 4-6, 7-6, 7-5 by Lauren Davis of the United States.

    Other winners before rain arrived late in the afternoon were Mirjana Lucic-Baroni, Bojana Jovanovski and Ana Konjuh.

    Polish world number 13 Agnieszka Radwanska is the only member of the top 20 playing in the Wimbledon warm-up tournament and is looking to rebound from a first-round loss at the French Open.

    Twelve-time Grand Slam champion Billie Jean King won the title the last time the Nottingham Open was staged on the main tour.

    Qatari side Al Sadd have announced that Barcelona midfielder Xavi will undergo a medical on Tuesday and be presented as a player on Thursday.

    The Spain midfielder, 35, has won eight league titles and four Champions League trophies with the club.

    He signed a three-year deal with Al Sadd in May.

    Striker Chris Beardsley, 31, has joined Mansfield for the third time in his career, after leaving League Two rivals Stevenage.

    Stags manager Adam Murray said: "Chris offers something we lacked last year - a bit of know-how, experience and guile in this league."

    Murray has also snapped up Oxford City striker Adi Yussuf on a free transfer.

    McLaren driver Fernando Alonso accused his own team of looking like "amateurs" at the Canadian Grand Prix.

    Both he and team-mate Jenson Button retired from the race. McLaren have just four points so far this season.

    Button posted on Facebook, external today on Monday: "This weekend was quite painful, but so far this season there's been improvement at every race, with the exception of yesterday.

    "Hopefully, we'll be back on track in Austria where we have some updates coming! Thank you guys for your continued support, it may take a little time but we'll get there."

    Could David Beckham's daughter be a future England star? Well she now has her own kit to cheer on England's women in Canada at the World Cup.

    The former England captain posted this picture on Instagram, external saying: "What an amazing gift from the England woman's team for Harper ... Good luck to the team tomorrow in their first game against France .. #lionesses #pride #England."

    We mentioned Lukas Podolski earlier and the 30-year-old is set to win his 124th cap for Germany against USA on Wednesday.

    Germany captain Bastian Schweinsteiger has paid tribute to the Arsenal striker.

    "In my eyes, he is often underrated. He's got fewer grey hairs than me and that's probably because he's had more fun in his life than I've had. He's always in a good mood."

    Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain seems to have got over his England snub.

    The Arsenal midfielder was left out of Roy Hodgson's England squad for games against the Republic of Ireland and Slovenia.

    Lukas Podolski believes he still has a future at Arsenal after a disappointing loan spell at Inter Milan.

    The Germany forward has fallen out of favour at Emirates Stadium and spent the second half of the season at the Serie A club, scoring one goal in 17 games.

    Podolski, 30, has one year left on his Gunners deal and says he would be happy to stay at the London club next season.

    "They are a great club and I think I can help them," he said.

    "Things can always change, but if needs be I will remain at Arsenal next season."

    Watford fans invaded the pitch to celebrate promotion to the Premier League

    Watford have announced the construction of 700 more seats at Vicarage Road to increase capacity before their return to the Premier League.

    The additional seating will be built in the Sir Elton John Stand, replacing staircases which are currently at the foot of the stand.

    That will take the capacity of the ground to above 21,000, more than top-flight rivals Swansea and Bournemouth.

    Conference side Aldershot Town have signed Jack Saville and Tom Richards following their departures from Barnet and Fulham respectively.

    Centre-back Saville, 24, made 26 league appearances last season as the Bees won the Conference title.

    Left-back Richards, 20, did not make a senior appearance for Fulham but had a loan spell at Aldershot earlier this year, featuring nine times.
