    Track Cycling

British Cycling was "too involved" in Sir Bradley Wiggins' hour record bid, says the coach of fellow Briton Alex Dowsett, the man whose record he beat.

Steve Collins alleged the governing body helped design parts of Wiggins' bike, which he felt was "not allowed".

Asked if he thought British Cycling preferred one rider to another, Collins told BBC Essex: "Oh yes, completely."

But a British Cycling (BC) spokesperson said Dowsett "had technical and operational support from BC personnel".

Wiggins, 35, completed a distance of 54.526km (33.88 miles) at Lee Valley VeloPark in London on Sunday, smashing Dowsett's mark of 52.937km (32.89 miles) that had been set in May.

BBC Newcastle's Martin Emmerson at Chester-le-Street:

"As things stand it doesn't look like this game will be heading to a fourth day. The third day may have little action too, come to that.

"Durham are struggling on 141-6 in their second innings, which is a lead of only 101. While Paul Collingwood remains out in the middle they do have some hope. He's rescued them many times before and has put on 40 so far for the seventh wicket with Paul Coughlin.

"Collingwood has 44 and Coughlin 23, but mostly Durham have found the going tough this afternoon on a difficult wicket."

  30. Italia 90 memories

    Football

    Roberto Baggio

Roberto Baggio scored a wonderful individual goal for hosts Italy against Czechoslovakia during the 1990 World Cup group game in Rome.

    Watch his goal here.

  31. Glos recover against Lancashire

    Lancashire 275, Gloucestershire 229-5

BBC Radio Gloucestershire's Bob Hunt at Bristol:

"An afternoon in which the game completely changed course.

"Jones's attacking intent was the perfect foil to the obdurate concentration of his partner."

  32. Bairstow hits ton for Yorkshire

    Middlesex 212 & 45-0, Yorkshire 229

BBC London 94.9's Kevin Hand at Headingley:

"Middlesex have just about kept their noses in front at tea on the second day at Headingley despite a magnificent century from Jonny Bairstow that handed Yorkshire an unlikely first-innings advantage.

"Having been reduced to 96-6 after losing two wickets to the first three balls of the day, the hosts were eventually all out for 229, with Bairstow unbeaten on 125 on a seamer-friendly pitch.

"The lead of 17 was quickly knocked off though as the Middlesex openers survived the 16 overs before the tea interval."

  33. Levi leads Northants reply

    Essex 276, Northants 249-5

BBC Sport's Elizabeth Ammon at Northampton:

"It is tea at Wantage Road after a good session for the home side. Runs have accumulated steadily in a 91-run partnership between Richard Levi and Josh Cobb, who ticked along at four an over and looked very solid.

"The partnership was broken by the last ball before tea when Adil Malik got a bit of turn, enough to induce the edge to the only slip fielder, to remove Cobb for 40, but Levi is still there on 78.

"Northants have reduced the first-innings deficit to just 27 on a docile, albeit dry, pitch. This evening session will be interesting to see just how much of a first innings lead they can get."

"When people say nasty things it does hurt. It's not something you can just push to the back of your mind and get back on the track and run. It does a lot more damage than people think it does."

  44. Generous Naismith makes mark

    Football

    Steven Naismith

We're all familiar with the stories about Everton's Steven Naismith being a good sort and giving tickets to unemployed fans, but it seems his generosity extends even further.

Every couple of months, the Scotland forward gathers up the used boots in the Everton changing room and gifts them to Stewarton Athletic, an amateur side in his Ayrshire home town. So big Jimmy McGlumpher spends his weekend clattering around wearing footwear that was previously used by Ross Barkley. Remarkable.

Furthermore, Naismith bags up all the leftover kit at Everton at the end of each season and his mum hands it out to kids in Stewarton.

"He is going through a bad time publicly but I have no reservations about playing him," Hodgson said.

"He has done some fantastic things for us. Against Ireland he maybe did not hit those heights but it will take a lot before I and the English national team lose faith in him."
