Autumn is truly upon us, it’s the last day of the County Championship season and play is underway at seven grounds across the country. The key issue to be resolved is who is joining Worcestershire in relegation from Division One. Hampshire are the team in the danger zone at present, they need a win at Nottinghamshire and for Sussex to lose at Yorkshire to survive at their south coast rivals expense.

This could well happen, with Hampshire currently half-way to a small target of 200 for the loss of no wickets. Meanwhile Sussex quickly took the final Yorkshire wicket of Jack Brooks this morning to leave them with a target of 309. All they need to do is bat out the day – but they’ve already lost captain Ed Joyce to the bowling of Brooks for 1.

In Division Two, Surrey are closing in on the title – the Curran brothers took 11 Northants wickets yesterday and they’ve continued where they left off this morning, taking three more as the visitors follow-on. Surrey only need a draw to get their hands on the trophy, but a win is looking likely there.

You can listen to all the action as it unfolds on our livepage.

McLaren will respect Button decisionpublished at 11:06

    Formula 1

McLaren's managing director Jonathan Neale has dropped the biggest hint yet that Jenson Button will bring the curtain down on his Formula One career at the end of the season.

The 2009 world champion has so far remained tight-lipped on his plans beyond this yearm but Neale suggested that the Englishman is ready to call time on his grand prix career.

"We are contracted with him, we want him to stay and we like him very much, but if your driver doesn't really want to be in the seat, we have to respect that", said Neale.

"I really hope that we have done enough between us to continue those discussions with him and have the confidence to keep him with us and that is what we would like."

Norwich City news conferencepublished at 11:01

West Ham v Norwich (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Chris Goreham
    BBC Radio Norfolk sport

This time last year defender Sebastien Bassong's days at Norwich looked numbered as he was farmed out on loan to Watford having fallen out of favour with former manager Neil Adams. The appointment of Alex Neil in January gave Bassong a way back and he is the only player to have started all 8 of Norwich's matches so far this season.

Bassong told us this morning that he has learned from his previous mistakes:

"I haven’t done everything right, if there’s some trouble I blame myself first. I wanted to make it right. I put my head down, I worked. People who had a misunderstanding of me were wrong.”

Liverpool v Aston Villa (Saturday, 15:00 BST)

    Mark Regan
    BBC WM Sport

Tim Sherwood was relaxed about Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett's post match comments on Tuesday saying he knew the Villa team.

Sherwood says its commonplace in football that everyone knows everyone else's team. 'It's more common than people imagine, it's not nice to be honest but it happens and we have to accept it. We will know Liverpool's team before tomorrow.'

"On the fitness front Adama Traore is back light training but the game may be too early for him. Idrissa Gana will be assessed today before the team travel north."

Aston Villa news conferencepublished at 10:24

Liverpool v Aston Villa (Sat, 15:00 BST)

More from Villa boss Tim Sherwood: The new lads are excited about the prospect of playing at Anfield. They've seen so many great players come from there. I still enjoy going there. I always did as a player and now as a manager. When we cross that white line, we'll be focused.

"Anytime is good to play Liverpool. It's always good to go to Anfield. They haven't got as many points as they would've liked. Neither have we. It's not a good time to play us either.

"Obviously you're worried about a wounded animal. A big football club not getting results. We'll be ready."
