Briton Martin Murray will fight German Arthur Abraham for the WBO world super middleweight title in Hannover, Germany on 21 November.

Murray, 33, from St Helens, moved up to the weight having failed in his previous three attempts at landing a world title at middleweight.

"I am thrilled to have the chance to face Arthur," said Murray.

"It's the fight I targeted when I chose to move up. I'm at my natural weight now and believe I'll become champion."

The fall out from England exit from the World Cup at the group stage is continuing and the latest sees Sale's Joe Ford believing the home nation paid the price for dropping his brother George.

England were dumped out of the competition after fly-half George Ford was controversially benched for their defeats against Wales and Australia.

"It is easy to say I'm biased, but just looking how England were playing with George at 10 in the Six Nations, they were a lot more attacking team," said Joe Ford.

"You have got to score tries against teams like Australia because they are going to score tries, they are that good.

"It is easy to say with hindsight, but maybe if George had got more game time it might have been a different story."

England women side want male coachpublished at 14:51

    Cricket

England women hope to appoint a man with international experience as their new head coach.

Paul Shaw is stepping down as head of performance after the summer's Ashes loss to Australia, with a head coach to be hired in a reshuffle.

England and Wales Cricket Board head of women's cricket, Clare Connor, told BBC Test Match Special: "The qualities and experiences we are looking for are going to be found more than likely with a coach who has worked at as high a level as possible in the men's game."

The formal recruitment process starts this week, with Shaw leaving at the end of the year.

Northern Ireland will be without Jonny Evans for the Euro 2016 qualifier against Greece, while forward Kyle Lafferty, defender Chris Baird and right-back Conor McLaughlin are suspended. However, Evans could return to face Finland.

"Obviously the injury to Jonny at the weekend was a blow but one thing I have noticed in those three days, maybe more so than in the past, is that the squad is stronger now than at any time I've been in charge," said O'Neill.

"I genuinely believe that we have the players to step in and deal with this game."

Northern Ireland have never qualified for the European Championship finals, but two points from the final two games will be enough to get them over the line ahead of third-placed Hungary.

We want you to select your ideal five-a-side legends team. Which players of the last 10 to 15 years would make that side and why?

Personally I'd have Roy Keane, Patrick Vieira, Joey Barton, Neil Lennon and Vinnie Jones. No one would dare mess, and the nights out after a game would be great.

Mexico wants to host a Legends World Cup in 2017 to show the kids of today that footballing superstars existed before Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi came along.

"It's about reviving history," organiser Tamer Al-Saoud told BBC World Football.

Former goalkeeper Jorge Campos, who plans to coach a Mexico side, hopes the likes of Zinedine Zidane, David Beckham, Paolo Maldini and Roberto Carlos will play but says Maradona is "too old".

Good choice. You mean Spassky though I think (unless he had same nickname as Mark Hughes, in which case I stand corrected).

Held in Reykjavik, at a time when relations between the US and Russia were frosty to say the least, it became a confrontation between the two countries and attracted more worldwide interest than any chess championship before or since.

Scotland winger Ikechi Anya and midfielder Charlie Mulgrew have left the squad because of injury. Scotland host Poland on Thursday and Gibraltar in Faro on Sunday.

West Brom midfielder James Morrison is suspended for the first game but also struggling with injury for the game on Sunday.

"Ikechi is not going to make it, he has a tight calf so he has gone back to get treatment at Watford," said Strachan. "James Morrison (suspended for Poland game) is going to struggle. He got an injury at the end of the game against Crystal Palace the other day.

"Charlie Mulgrew (thigh) was never going to be fit. Charlie is only here because he wanted to be here and add to the squad and what we do behind the scenes and he has certainly done that."

Northampton Town boss Chris Wilder says the Johnstone's Paint Trophy should be scrapped as fans are not interested.

On Tuesday 2,254 fans saw the Cobblers defeated at Millwall, almost 6,000 less than attended the last match at The Den against Rochdale in League One.

"Sack the competition. There's a chance to get to Wembley, but that's so far down the line," said Wilder.

"I'm not a lover of the competition. I think we play enough football, we've got the League Cup and the FA Cup."

Butland has been fantastic - Hartpublished at 14:06

    Football

England goalkeeper Joe Hart has praised Stoke keeper Jack Butland and Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli.

"Jack Butland has been fantastic," says Hart. "He is a young guy who has played a lot of games, he has captained the Under-21s and been one of Stoke’s top players this year. Nothing has surprised me about the progress he has made.

"Dele Alli has really pushed on. He had a good season last year and Tottenham have had the confidence to put him in what is already a very good side. I think he has a big England future."

Seamus Coleman has been ruled out of the Republic of Ireland's Euro 2016 qualifier against Germany with injury.

Manager Martin O'Neill confirmed on Wednesday that the Everton defender has a hamstring injury which will keep him out of Thursday's tie in Dublin.

However he is hopeful Coleman, who has not trained all week, could be available for the final Group D clash against Poland on Sunday in Warsaw.

Fears over Wes Hoolahan's fitness have eased after he trained on Wednesday.

Some more quotes from England goalkeeper Joe Hart. Asked if the side have made progress after a disappointing World Cup 2014 campaign, the Manchester City goalkeeper replies: "I feel there is a great belief in the squad. We feel good. We have picked ourselves up.

"We were disappointed a couple of summers ago but life goes on. We had a two-year plan after that. We’re 12 months into that and then it is all about next summer.

"Winning 10 qualifying games wouldn’t crown everything, winning the tournament itself would do that. It isn’t that good an achievement unless we go on and win the whole thing."

"I don’t think anyone in the game would say a bad word about him. I certainly don’t. I am very proud to have him as my captain."
