The claim against Jose Mourinho will be on the basis that he was instrumental in the actions against Carneiro in having her dropped from first-team duties and effectively demoted.

It means the Portuguese manager will have to appear in person at an employment tribunal unless the case is settled out of court beforehand. Under employment law, an individual can be personally liable for damages if victimisation or discrimination can be proved.

Scoring six goals in the Premier League is really impressive – and the manner of Everton’s attacking play in the second half was sparkling. Gerard Deulofeu has immense ability and must be a nightmare for full backs. Anyone who can ping a cross into the danger zone the way he does has to be worth his weight in gold – and a dream for strikers of the ability of Romelu Lukaku.

But a big day too for Arouna Kone – a player who’s Everton career hasn’t really got going because of injury – until now. We’ve seen glimpses before, but yesterday we saw a player fully fit and full of confidence. And when you can bring a player like Kevin Mirallas off the bench, it just shows what strength in depth Everton now seem to possess.

Manchester City captainVincent Kompanyhas described Uefa's investigation into booing of the Champions League anthem by his club's supporters as "a joke".

"We have played many games in Europe where there has been racial abuse and we have had to put up with it," Kompany said.

"And there have been times when we have been sanctioned in the same way as the team that was actually perpetrating those chants."

The European governing body opened disciplinary proceedings after City fans jeered the anthem prior to last month's home game with Sevilla, saying it breached regulations concerning "disruption of the competition anthem".

Jenson Button rued a "painful" Mexican Grand Prix after finishing 14th in Sunday's race.

Button started in last place after he was handed a record 70-place grid penalty due to Formula 1's engine rules.

"Painful, I think, is the word," said Button, the 2009 world champion, when asked to describe his race. "I was on the harder tyre at the start but still it was just waving goodbye to everyone in front really.

"I couldn't hold people behind me even if I was in front of them - not that it was very often, unless they were pitting or lapping me."
