Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has also been responding to criticism of his side's recent lack of goals.

United beat CSKA 1-0 in the Champions League this week, a result that the Dutchman claimed was "making history".

"CSKA played last year against Manchester City at home and they won. Even in the golden age of Manchester United they could not win at home – a lucky 3-3 at Old Trafford, so we have made history.

"I think we have to play for the fans, they have to understand also the game and also they have to analyse that and OK that."

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has told the club's supporters to criticise him rather than the players if they are unhappy with the way the team is playing.

The Dutchman says it is difficult for the players to perform at Old Trafford due to "all the yelling" from supporters, who have recently voiced their frustrations during recent games at the side's lack of attacking football.

"Supporters have to support otherwise they make it more difficult for the players," said Van Gaal. "It’s very difficult to play for Manchester United with a lot of pressure and you can taste that in Old Trafford because of all the yelling, so it’s better to whistle the manager, I can cope with it."

Manchester United v West Bromwich Albion (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Man Utd news conference

"What a difference a goal makes. After 404 minutes without one Manchester United supporters were on the brink of revolt during Tuesday's Champions League game with CSKA Moscow, chanting "attack, attack, attack" and booing Louis van Gaal's decision to take off Anthony Martial to bring on Marouane Fellaini.

"Wayne Rooney's winner changed all that, sending supporters home happy with the result, if still concerned at the sides inability to turn their dominance into convincing victories.

"Today Louis van Gaal will surely face more questions on his style of play ahead of the game with West Brom, but with the side four points off the top of the Premier League and heading for the knockout stage of the Champions League he deserves credit for making United difficult to beat, even if he still has work to do to win over the most idealistic of fans."

It's coming up at about 12:30 GMT
