IAAF president Lord Sebastian Coe gives his reaction to BBC News after the release of the Wada Commission report.

"I’m not putting a time frame but I will do whatever is necessary," he said. "This is not a swift road back. I will do it to the very best of my ability. I will deal with whatever allegations are proven. I don’t shirk from that.

"We clearly have to understand full scope of allegations. We will look at ourselves. We will move quickly on this. I want to see a sport which is transparent and accountable and I will do what I can to do that."

Wada chairman Sir Craig Reedie has told BBC Radio 5 live:

"There is evidence on the criminal side if you look at media reports over the last few days. The criminal behaviour, specifically in athletics, may go beyond Russia. We at the World Anti-Doping Agency have absolute information from all the other countries who are involved in this and we try to monitor that as best we can.

"I have to say to you that if people in Russia were capable of cheating this system, it is not impossible that other people did the same.

"Let’s hope that the particular steps taken to clean up this mess become a significant message to anybody else that has been misbehaving in the anti-doping community on the grounds that ultimately, we won’t allow it."

"I was delighted to see him get the [Manchester] United job and I am disappointed at how the last 18 months has gone for him because he is a great manager and I have seen that at first hand."

Wolfgang Niersbach has released a statement after his resignation as president of the German Football Association.

Niersbach is suspected of having known about and assisting with the payment of sums to secure votes for the 2006 World Cup, which was staged in Germany, but has stressed his innocence.

"In the areas which I worked in, I can say with a clean conscience that I have absolutely nothing to reproach myself for. It makes it all the more depressing and painful for me to be faced with things nine years later that I was not involved in, and which have left many questions open for me," he said.

"I remain and would like to make it clear unmistakably once again that I had absolutely no knowledge of the background of the flow of payments that are being looked into."

Fomer British 400m runner Lee McConnell told BBC Radio 5 live: "Russia seem to be very strong in the 400m. We used to joke that there was a bit of a factory churning them out because as soon as two disappeared one year, two would come and replace them that were equally strong.

"Everyone’s always had their suspicions as to how many of their athletes are taking drugs but it’s always been suspicions and we’ve never been 100% sure whether they have been clean or they have been taking drugs.

"The report needs to go further and they need to look at all countries in all sports because you don’t want children coming into sport thinking they feel they have to cheat in order to be successful. But I do believe there are clean athletes out there who are successful."

The International Olympic Committee has released a statement, responding to the findings of the independent commission.
