Gary Neville has clearly got the management bug, saying he hopes to remain Valencia manager next season after their 2-2 draw with Real Madrid.

Neville, who has a six-month contract, had been quoted during the week as saying he did not see his long-term future in management. , external

But after their draw with Real, he clarified: "I was talking about 15 to 20 years' time when I talked about [quitting] management.

"I absolutely hope I'm here beyond six months but I need to prove myself."

Jurgen Klopp news conferencepublished at 13:53

    Football

    Reporter, BBC Radio Merseyside Sport

Jurgen Klopp hasn’t been at Anfield very long, and he’s already seen the good and the bad that Liverpool can produce.

But he’s now reached a semi final, and while the League Cup may not be his major priority, it does give him a chance to take a team to Wembley and pick up some early silverware.

That could be crucial in setting in motion his long term managerial goals.

Stoke however are an excellent side. Klopp is well aware of that and in fact knows more about Stoke than most of the other teams he’s coming up against.

It should be a fascinating tie.

Williams in injury scarepublished at 13:44

    Tennis

Serena Williams has had an injury scare ahead of the start of her Australian Open title defence.

Williams had to withdrew from her opening match for the United States at the Hopman Cup on Monday because of inflammation in her left knee.

She was replaced in the US team by Vicky Duval, who returned to tennis in August after overcoming Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Williams said afterwards she was confident of being fit enough to play in the second game on Tuesday.

    Gayle comments 'disrespectful'published at 13:32

    Cricket

    Chris GayleImage source, Getty Images

Star batsman Chris Gayle has found himself in a spot of bother.

After he was dismissed for 41 off 15 balls when batting for the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash, he was interviewed by TV presenter Mel McLaughlin

Gayle told a clearly uncomfortable McLaughlin that he got himself deliberately dismissed so that he could "look in your eyes".

"Hopefully we can win this game and have a drink after", he said, before finishing "Don't blush, baby".

However, the head of the Australian T20 league, Anthony Everard, said that Gayle's comments were "disrespectful and simply inappropriate", and that he would be speaking to Gayle about it.

Some interesting stuff from Klopp and further frustration for both him and the fans that Daniel Sturridge continues to be absent through injury.

Sturridge has started just four games all season, with a further two appearances from the bench.

And with that, off Klopp trots.

Stoke boss Mark Hughes.is due to face the media at 14:30 GMT. We'll bring you that as it happens.

No doubt who Jurgen Klopp thinks will be the biggest threat when his side take on Stoke ... the Potters' Austrian striker Marko Arnautovic.

Little wonder really, given he is storng and powerful and can hit the target too - scoring seven goals in 18 league starts.

"Arnautovic was young player in Germany who had some problems but he has a big talent. He's scoring goals, making runs behind lines," says Klopp.

"He is more of a false nine. One of biggest rules in football is you have to avoid crosses."

"We know about the quality of Stoke, of course," he said. "It's the team I know most about because I know most of the players."

Boy, did England need that breakthrough.

South Africa are 277-3, with Hashim Amla still going strong on 126.

Burglars cook and leave thank you notepublished at 12:41

    Football

Burglars broke into an amateur football club's cafe and cooked burgers on a griddle before leaving a "thank you" note scribbled on the wall.

The thieves also stole around 10 bottles of spirits from Colne Football Club's clubhouse in Colne, Lancashire.

Volunteers found the message that read, "Thank you burgor (sic) was great" before signing off with "Joey back at it" and a smiley face.

Club treasurer Janette Harries said she hoped police would catch the culprits.

She said: "It's cheeky; they are rubbing our noses in it. Whether they are dumb enough to write their real name, you can't tell.
