    Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed winger Ashley Young has a severe groin injury and will be operated on.

    He told MUTV that Young will be out for "a long time."  

    Young went off injured after 42 minutes of United's 1-0 win over Liverpool on Sunday.

    That was the answer from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, when asked if there was any news about the signing of Shakhtar Donetsk forward Alex Teixeira.

    Klopp would not speak about the 26-year-old, who has scored 22 goals in 15 league matches.

    "I have nothing to say about this (Teixeira)," he said. "We could talk about a lot of players in the world and I could, if we had time for this, talk about the qualities they have."

    Back in 2007, he and elder brother Luke helped a Halifax man, external who was choking on a sausage by performing the Heimlich Manouveure to release the trapped food.

    Rugby league star Sam Burgess is being hailed a hero off the field as well as on it in Australia after reportedly saving a man's life.

    The former England rugby union international was with his South Sydney Rabbitohs team-mates at the Sydney Fish Markets competing in an eating challenge when a staff member from Decosti Seafood joined in and began to choke.

    According to a witness, some seafood got caught in the staff member's throat and Burgess raced straight over and grabbed him and started putting his body weight on him to try and get it out.

    "He was helping him for about 30 to 40 seconds," the witness told Fox Sports Australia., external "Instead of spitting it out he ended up swallowing it, but if Sam hadn’t have helped it could have been bad."

    Corey Anderson hit an unbeaten 82 from 42 balls to help New Zealand beat Pakistan by 95 runs in the deciding T20 international to win the series 2-1.

    Pakistan won the toss in Wellington and opted to field but rued their decision as Martin Guptill and captain Kane Williamson had an opening stand of 57.

    Pakistan never managed to get their chase on track and were reduced to 15-3 within the third over and finally folded for 101 in the 17th.

    Kevin Pietersen has helped the Melbourne Stars reach the final of the Big Bash where they will play Sydney Thunder.

    Former England batsman Pietersen scored 62 from 36 including two sixes, against the Perth Scorchers in the semi-final.

    Down Under in the Big Bash the batsman has just scored 62 for the Melbourne Stars against the Perth Scorchers.

    His half-century included a six off England bowler David Willey.

    The Stars need 12 runs to reach the final of the T20 competition.

    Remi Garde says he's not going to complain about the prospect of few players coming into the club before the transfer window closes.

    "Yesterday the chairman hinted there would be no major expenditure this month, in a desperate attempt to avoid relegation. But the Villa manager says he won't waste energy on possibilities - even though he is actively looking for fresh faces in the next 10 days.

    Garde refuses to accept relegation is a certainty: "I will believe anything is possible until it's mathematically impossible."

    For tomorrow's local derby at West Brom, Alan Hutton and Carlos Sanchez are still out injured.

    And Gabby Agbonlahor, who's been out recently? "He's training," was the terse response from Garde.

    Norwich manager Alex Neil has confirmed that new signings Steven Naismith and Ivo Pinto are available for the Liverpool match, but will make a late call on Timm Klose.

    But one player who could be on his way from Carrow Road to join Championship side Sheffield Wednesday. 

    Neil said: "Negotiations are ongoing and we're not far away."  

    He added: "We're still looking to conclude other bits of business before the window closes. It's a great position to be in."

    News that will almost certainly rile Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

    Striker Daniel Sturridge has not played for the Reds since 6 December due to injury.

    And the England player's return has been delayed by at least 10 days.

    Klopp said: “You can’t be nearly fit, then playing, then injured again, then nearly fit, then playing, then injured again, then during training something like injured again, and then you say after five days ‘come on’ to pick the day you get him and then he gets the next injury.

    “We have to be patient. That’s not my best skill, to be honest! But in this case I have no other choice.”

    Fog delays play in Abu Dhabipublished at 10:51

    Fog delayed Friday's play at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, meaning afternoon starters Rory McIlroy, world number one Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler will not complete their second rounds until Saturday. 

    The weather resulted in a delay of two hours and 45 minutes but play is well underway.

    England's Andy Sullivan is the big mover on the course and is now in a share of the lead with first round leader Bryson Dechambeau of America on eight under.
