Meanwhile, Gary Neville is still looking for his first La Liga win as Valencia boss but saw his side earn a point at Deportivo La Coruna thanks to Alvaro Negredo's late goal.

The former Manchester United defender and current England coach has taken Valencia into the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey but the club's 10-match winless run in La Liga is their longest for 30 years.

However, thanks to Negredo's seventh goal of the season Neville has overseen only two league losses and his side remain in mid-table.

Zinedine Zidane failed to win for the first time since taking over as Real Madrid coach after his team were held to a shock draw at Real Betis.

Struggling Betis had not won in 10 league matches - and, remarkably, had not even managed to score a single goal in their previous seven games - but went ahead thanks to a Alvaro Cejudo's opener.

Karim Benzema levelled to secure a point.

"We dropped two points and that is the negative part but we have to think that we can get over this and that you have to fight for the league until the end," said Zidane, whose side are four points behind Barcelona in the table.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang says he was hurt after Yaya Toure said it was "indecent" to give the Gabon forward the African Player of the Year award.

Manchester City midfielder Toure said the decision had brought "shame" on the continent, while Swansea's Andre Ayew also questioned the move.

Ivory Coast's Toure and Ghana's Ayew reached the African Cup of Nations final, and Gabon went out early.

"I was hurt by what was said, it's a shame," Borussia Dortmund striker Aubameyang said.

james: all for giving people a second chance but think DH has more than enough.

Max Baggins-Craig: We need to bring in new leaders, otherwise where can we turn?. Give him a chance, experience's vital, he'll be good you'll see.
