"When it’s end of January and you are involved in three competitions you have to take it game by game. But this is the position we want to be in, fighting for a major trophy," says Roberto Martinez.

"Of course the disappointments are painful at the moment because the results haven’t reflected the football we are playing."

  6. Warner's revelation

    Athletics

    Ed Warner

The head of Britain's track and field federation says he has been told by the IAAF that the bidding processes for the 2017 and 2019 world championships have been referred to the world track governing body's ethics commission.

UK Athletics chairman Ed Warner made the revelation while appearing at a British parliamentary committee.

The 2017 championships were awarded to London, which defeated a rival bid from Doha, Qatar. Doha won the 2019 worlds. Qatar has denied any wrongdoing in its bids for either championship.

Warner alleged recently that "brown envelopes'" were handed to members of the IAAF council ahead of the vote in 2011 for the 2017 worlds.

Martinez is due to face the media at 12:00 GMT. We'll bring you the best of what is said.

Which player/s should your club be trying to sign and why?

Jonathan Oh: Chelsea want a DOMINANT midfielder. Look no further. Seung Yeung is the Ki.

Ordythegeordie: If Newcastle can get a centre-back like Michael Keane (Burnley) and a finisher like Saido Berahino they will finish top half - a left back would help too.

AcBrook: West Ham need a striker, Zarate was strong but we let him go. Daniel Sturridge would be brilliant, maybe Loic Remy too.

All great suggestions. We want more of them. You know what to do. Tweet us using #bbcsportsday and we will include the best comments.

    Football

It's just been pointed out to us, on the back of Andros Townsend expected £12m switch from Tottenham to Newcastle, that the clubs meet at St James' Park on the final day of the season.

It's transfer deadline day on Monday, when lots of players will be swapping clubs and having medicals.
