When will Christian Benteke's fortune in front of goal change?

Since his £32m summer arrival from Aston Villa, the striker has failed to win over many Liverpool fans who have questioned the wisdom in spending so much on a striker who has struggled to fit into the Reds' system

Benteke had nine efforts at goal against West Ham - three times as many as any other player - but extended his goalless run to 11 matches in 2016.

"He wants to score and we need him to score. We will work on it in the days, weeks and months," said Jurgen Klopp.

Aston Villa defender Micah Richards gave Daniel Sturridge's return the thumbs up last night. Well, not actually the thumbs up, more of an 'ace' emoticon thingy. Oh, I don't know, how to describe it...

Back to football for a minute or so. Daniel Sturridge. Remember him? He occasionally plays football for Liverpool and, as you can see from this picture, he managed to lift his left leg waist-high last night, which is progress indeed.

In appearing as a substitute against West Ham, the striker - whose latest injury has been to the hamstring - made his first appearance since early December

The England international gradually grew into the game after arriving as a 59th-minute substitute, showing glimpses of neat footwork and his sharp eye for goal.

    Cricket

Uncapped off-spinner Liam Dawson has been included in England's squad for the World Twenty20 in India next month.

All-rounder Chris Woakes has been left out but pace bowler Steven Finn has been selected for the tournament, which begins on 8 March.

Kevin Pietersen's form in the Australian Big Bash competition has not earned him selection, despite calls for him to be included.

Full squad: Eoin Morgan (Middlesex) (capt), Moeen Ali (Worcestershire), Sam Billings (Kent), Jos Buttler (Lancashire), Liam Dawson (Hampshire), Steven Finn (Middlesex), Alex Hales (Nottinghamshire), Chris Jordan (Sussex), Adil Rashid (Yorkshire), Joe Root (Yorkshire), Jason Roy (Surrey), Ben Stokes (Durham), Reece Topley (Hampshire), James Vince (Hampshire), David Willey (Yorkshire).

    I wish we had kept....

Today's topic for debate is related to managers.

Another one lost his job earlier this week with Derby sacking boss Paul Clement, despite the side being fifth in the Championship. But, not every new manager can have the impact of Claudio Ranieri at Leicester, so we want to know when your club has got it wrong.

So our question is: which manager do you wish your club had kept and why?

  7. 'Door wide open' for Liverpoolpublished at 09:02 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2016

    West Ham 2-1 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp felt his much-changed side should have won the game after Philippe Coutinho's low free-kick had cancelled out Michail Antonio's opener.

The Reds' £32.5m striker Christian Benteke again missed several good chances as the visitors had 20 attempts on goal - one more than West Ham.

"It's hard. We were the better team, created chances and played good football, but we didn't use them," said Klopp.

"The door was wide open for us because we did well, but it was not enough. We have to carry on and fight to the next game."

    West Ham 2-1 Liverpool

    West Ham United

What did West Ham manager Slaven Bilic have to say about his team's FA Cup progress? Understandably, the Croat described the victory as one of the club's best.

"It will go into the history of West Ham's greatest games," said Bilic after the 2-1 victory. "Against Liverpool, the last season at Upton Park, night kick-off, a goal in the last minute.

"They left their heart on the pitch."

The Independent's Jack Pitt-Brooke writes, external: "The noise that greeted the goal, and the final whistle, made it sound as if the team had won far more than just the fifth round tie with Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.
