Stef Barnes: If this happens football will be destroyed and we might as well all go back to our local lower league teams like lots of fans already have. This would be the last straw for most fans.

Nick Hughes: Football is basically finished

Lou Wastell: Would you really deny Leicester City champions league football for Chelsea or Man United? Absolute joke that anyone is even entertaining the idea of wildcards, another case of monopolising football and making it exclusive for the rich and unattainable for the working class.

Chris Yeates: The biggest 12 European clubs should just create their own league! Would make domestic leagues more even without the richest clubs

Geoff Naylor: Interesting that all comments shown are against wild cards into the CL for big clubs. This Forest fan thinks it's a good idea?

China can win World Cup, says ex-England bosspublished at 13:31 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2016

    Sven-Goran ErikssonImage source, Getty Images

Shanghai SIPG boss Sven-Goran Eriksson thinks China will be challenging to win the World Cup by 2030.

Chinese Super League clubs have invested heavily recently, with President Xi Jinping showing a huge interest in the growth of football in the country.

Eriksson, who has managed England and Ivory Coast at World Cups said: "The future for China is great.

"Ten years ahead, 15 years ahead, I am quite sure that the China national team will compete to win the World Cup.

"I think I am at the right place at the right time. I was in Italy during the 90s when every football player wanted to come to Italy because there was more money and the football was very, very good.

"Then the 2000s, the English Premier League, all the players wanted to go there. Now 2016, it seems like every football player wants to come to China."

Whether or not Donald Trump becomes the next President of the United States, he provides an ongoing problem for golf.

For the second time in a month Martin Slumbers, the chief executive of the R&A, has been forced to deflect questions generated by the Republican front runner's election campaigning.

Trump's outspoken plans to ban Muslims from entering the US and building a wall on the Mexican border are at odds with golf's ethos of becoming a more inclusive sport.

So starts a fascinating feature by BBC Sport's golf correspondent Iain Carter. You can read the rest of it here.

Former world champion Jody Scheckteron the comments by F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone that the sport is boring: "I think he is right. I really find it very boring.

"Mercedes’ dominance is part of it but also all these regulations where the driver has got to go back five spaces because their gearbox broke or they parked in the wrong place… they really spoil racing for me

"I think they’ve done all this to save money which I don’t understand because every team spends all its money anyway. It hasn’t been so uncompetitive for as long as I can remember.

“The racing used to be purer than it is at the moment. The regulations are so tight, there’s no freedom in it at all."

Patrick McHale: Absolute twaddle, Champions League would be a poorer competition if it had wildcards, might as well have a free for all lottery and see Barnet, St Pauli or Guingamp taking part.

Rhys Jaggar: Well, there is only one acceptable condition for wildcards - the club receives no income above costs and the players no salary for a whole season. They want the sporting privilege, they renounce their mercenary greed. OK?

Pete Sperry: Terrible idea, can't think a single football fan (other then Chelsea and Man U fans) that would back this. Giving other clubs a chance to compete at this (so called) elite level improves the entire league. It increases revenue for those new clubs that have played well enough and deserve to be there on merit. No club deserves to be there just because they have historically been dominant.
