On the back of the Champions League draw, we'll have the Europa League last eight draw from 12:00 GMT with Liverpool the only English team left.

Sevilla, winners of the competitions for the past two seasons, are still in contention and joined in the draw by Athletic Bilbao, Borussia Dortmund, Shakhtar Donetsk, Sparta Prague, Sporting Braga and Villarreal.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could face former club Dortmund but hopes they can be kept apart for the time being.

"I have contacts with my Dortmund friends, they all would like to play against us - but in Basle (in the final)," said Klopp.

"But you saw all the results, there are only good teams left in the race. It's cool. Last eight? Perfect."

There was a time when a certain Gianni Infantino would be the master of ceremonies for this as he threw in a bit of wit in trying to jazz up people pulling balls out of a bowl.

Infantino is now otherwise occupied as Fifa president - now that's what you call a promotion - so we'll have to manage without him.

Only Manchester City are flying the English flag in the Champions League and they will find out who they meet when the draw for the quarter-finals takes place from 11:00 GMT.

The other teams left are: Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Benfica, PSG, Real Madrid and Wolfsburg.

Anyone passing through Old Trafford before kick-off on Thursday would have noticed the police presence pouring to the stadium. Unfortunately it seemed some members of the crowd chose to ignore it.

BBC Sport's chief football reporter Ian Dennis witnessed punches being thrown and seats ripped up just before and after full-time.

On the back of the trouble at the game between Manchester United and Liverpool, the two clubs could face Uefa action.

Fans lit flares and were involved in scuffles during the Europa League last-16 second leg at Old Trafford and Greater Manchester Police arrested five men; two on suspicion of affray and one who was cautioned for lighting a flare.

In a statement, GMP said it was investigating a "handful of concerning incidents".

Following fighting between fans from both sides in a small section of the crowd, the police had to escort a number of supporters out of the ground and on to their coaches.

A number of smoke bombs and flares were let off in the away end shortly before half-time, GMP added.

England must end a run of limited-overs defeats by South Africa in their latest World Twenty20 game on Friday, which starts at 14:00 GMT.

Having lost to West Indies on Wednesday, Eoin Morgan's side know that defeat would leave them on the brink of elimination from semi-final contention with two games still remaining.

The Proteas beat England in their last three one-day internationals and both T20 internationals in February.

Before that game, Australia play rivals New Zealand from 09:30 GMT.

The Murray's haven't enjoyed the greatest of tournaments at Indian Wells.

Andy was knocked out in the third round and now his brother Jamie has been beaten as he missed out on becoming the world number one in doubles.

Jamie and partner Bruno Soares lost 6-7 (2-7) 7-6 (7-2) 10-8 in the quarter-finals by Feliciano Lopez and Marc Lopez.

The 30-year-old is looking to overtake Soares' fellow Brazilian Marcelo Melo.

"It didn't happen today, but next week we'll go again," said Jamie. "I was aware of it. People write about it so you hear about it."

Nico Rosberg crashed his Mercedes in second practice at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.

The bad start to his campaign was emphasised as team-mate Lewis Hamilton used the best of the damp conditions to set the pace at Albert Park.

Rosberg lost control accelerating out of Turn Six on a wet track, breaking off his front wing and had to stop on the circuit to avoid dropping debris.

Spurs undone by dominant Dortmundpublished at 08:19 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2016

    Football

Tottenham were also in Europa League action and they were beaten 2-1 at home by Borussia Dortmund, who went through to the last eight 5-1 on aggregate.

The damage for Spurs was done in the first leg when Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino decided to play a weakened and inexperienced team against one of the favourites to win the Europa League.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino put out a stronger side for teh second leg but by then it was too late and even they lost.

Pochettino may argue his side are going for the Premier League title but Dortmund are also challenging for the Bundesliga crown.

Liverpool evolution highlights Man Utd identity crisispublished at 08:14 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2016

"Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and his Manchester United counterpart Louis van Gaal headed in opposite directions as soon as the final whistle sounded at Old Trafford.

"Once the usual formalities were complete after the 1-1 draw that sent Liverpool into the last eight of the Europa League with a 3-1 aggregate win over United, Klopp went to salute the travelling fans as Van Gaal strode towards the tunnel at the Stretford End.

"It was symbolic of the current trajectory of these two fierce old adversaries under their respective managers and underlined by the performances of Manchester United and Liverpool in their first European meeting."

Liverpool knock out Man Utdpublished at 08:10 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2016

    Football

Right, just in case you missed it, let's flesh out some of the bones of Liverpool's progress. The Reds took a 2-0 lead into the second leg of their last-16 Europa League tie at Manchester United.

The Red Devils pulled one back through an Anthony Martial penalty but Philippe Coutinho produced a brilliant solo effort to bag an away goal for Liverpool. That left United needing three more without reply to go through.

They didn't get them and it finished 1-1 on the night and 3-1 to Liverpool on aggregate.
