BBC Radio Cumbria’s ISDN line at Workington’s Borough Park came down through a hole in the roof at the back of the stand and so you had to stand up holding the ISDN kit in one hand and trying to read notes at the same time. In terms of good places to visit, Blyth Spartans takes a bit of beating. I turned up there to be greeted by a steward who insisted I park my car inside the ground behind the main stand. I could never see that happening in the Football League.

Toulon's Leigh Halfpenny was not considered for Wales' summer tour of New Zealand, according to coach Warren Gatland.

But the full-back could be called up as injury cover if required and provided he proves his fitness.

The 27-year-old has not played since September and was omitted fromGatland's 35-man tour squad.

"We've spoken to Leigh and we've picked a standby list and he's part of that," said Gatland.

"He understands he does need some games and he's happy to be on a standby list."

Micky Mellon will remain as Shrewsbury Town boss next season, after the League One club's brush with relegation.

Mellon said on Thursday that his future or otherwise would only be shaped by a meeting with chairman Roland Wycherley.

But the pair spoke amicably at the team's hotel on Saturday night prior toSunday's final game with Swindon.

"We had great talks on Saturday night. We sat down like we would any weekend to talk about the future of the club," Mellon told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"We both know the way that we want to move the club forward.

My favourite away ground has always been Villa Park, there is something so historic about the place and it has character so many of the modern identikit stadiums lack. The grandeur of the Holte End is still an imposing sight on arrival, the staff are warm and friendly, the food is exceptionally tasty and the atmosphere is always great, especially with the away fans so close to the pitch on one side - Manchester United's great run of success there definitely helps too.

Special mention has to go to Craven Cottage which is hard to beat on a nice day, and Rochdale's Spotland for the indie tunes of DJ Dave Sweetmore.

Liverpool v Chelsea (Weds, 20:00 BST)

Liverpool could win the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League next season. Or, in a worst case scenario, they could lose the Europa League final and finish out of the places to secure a spot in the competition next season depending on how the next three games go.

"What I would prefer next Thursday is that it we have won the Europa League and beaten Chelsea and West Brom in the league," said Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.

"I like this all or nothing but only because we have the chance to get all.

"If we lose next two games I will still go to Basel confident."

So how is Jurgen Klopp weighing up his team selection as his side face Chelsea and West Brom in the top  before the Europa League final against Sevilla in Basel on 18 May.

"We bring the fittest players," he said. "Most of the players who will play tomorrow have had a normal week.

"Then we will see who is fit for Sunday against West Brom and then we make a squad for Basel. What I learned this year is to rotate.

"You need rhythm and we will try to give the boys as much rhythm as possible."

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is asked about his plans for next season and some of the rumours around the players linked with the Reds.

"The Chelsea game has no influence on my thoughts for next season. It is a big game," he said.

"We think about transfers, of course, and everything but 99% of all things in newspapers are 1% true - not all newspapers, sorry.

"A lot of rumours are very far away from the actual thing. Sometimes I do not even know the name of the player that is supposed to be coming to Liverpool. We will do our work and say something when there is something to say.

"We have to improve and if we can then we can have a really good season next season."

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has given an update on midfielder Jordan Henderson's fitness as he continues his recovery from an injury.

"Really good news," said Klopp. "We had to rest him for a long time so he could not do a lot as we tried everything to avoid surgery, which isn't necessary.

"Yesterday, he trained - not with the team - and it looked good. He was only passing and running but looked OK.

"It's nine days until the Europa League final and we will have to see (if he is fit for that) but it is 100% he will be fit for Euro 2016 in France."

I was commentating on Sheffield Wednesday with former Owls defender Darren Purse (a Millwall fan) and he brought his dad to the game. Wednesday scored and the Millwall fans in front decided to take issue with our (my) northern roots.

This led to Purse’s dad telling the supporters he was a (censored) Millwall fan. It would’ve been quite amusing had it not played out a little too close to our microphones for comfort. Fortunately Millwall equalised and everyone went home as friends.

York City are among the friendliest and most welcoming I’ve visited but the ground itself would be high on the list for the least functional press areas for modern day journalists and commentators.

In the old days of a notepad and pen; no problem! Broadcasting kit, laptops and other such devices? Not so much. Snug is how best to describe being stuck in a lift with a party of Sumo wrestlers. Bootham Crescent’s press seating make that look like the vast expanse of the North York Moors.
