A word from Simon Stone on the future of Stones...published at 08:55

    BBC Sport

Manchester City's failure to complete the transfer of Aymeric Laporte could see them intensify their efforts to sign John Stones from Everton.

New City boss Pep Guardiola is keen to bolster his defensive options.

It is believed he is interested in Stones, who is on Euro 2016 duty with England.

And now Laporte has signed a contract extension at Athletic Bilbao, City may test Everton's resolve to keep Stones, 22, who almost joined Chelsea last summer.

Laporte had been on City's radar despite being out of action with a broken leg and dislocated ankle.
