'Magnificent Iceland'published at 09:43 British Summer Time 28 June 2016

    England's Euro 2016 exit

The front page of French sports daily L'Equipe is pretty chipper, revelling in "magnificent" Iceland's victory over England.

But presumably inside there's a stern warning: underestimate these Icelanders like England did...

It's France next, in Paris on Sunday. Could they spoil the party?

The Greeks know a thing or two about an underdog victory (Euro winners in 2004 of course), and sports paper Goal also leads on Iceland's win in Nice.

    'Volcanoes!' roars the headline.

It was good while it lasted.

In Spain, Marca strikes a morbid tone.

"We're no longer the best" reads the headline on a front page designed like an obituary piece in the wake of defeat by Italy in the last 16 of the Euros.

As you can imagine, in Italy the mood's rather more buoyant.

TikItalia is the cheeky line poking fun at the decline of Spain's dominance of international football.

    Germany next for the Italians...

Going into Euro 2016 the Azzurri squad was considered to be the worst for 50 years but they are now just three games from glory.

While we wallow in England misery, let's remember that Wales are still very much in this tournament and face Belgium in the quarter-finals in Paris on Friday.

But perhaps a reality check is required: Wales, after all, lost to England.

We'll put it down to an aberration...

Plenty of disgruntled England fans making their departure from Nice airport.

The over-riding feeling seems to be disbelief mixed with anger at the scale of England's collapse against Iceland.

The Icelandic fans, in contrast, wear the smiles of a country rejoicing in its greatest football victory - and who have spent the night celebrating it.
