The Tea In Team: Right choice. Sees what's happening on the pitch; tactically aware; clear minded; pragmatic; not just long ball

Dave James King: Big Sam is the right man for the job, promoted West Ham back to the Premier League. He will bring stability to England, it's what's needed!

John Ghoti: We now have a bang average manager to lead bang average players. Rafa was the right choice, the FA got it wrong. Again.

Mourinho doesn't deny Pogba movepublished at 09:45 British Summer Time 21 July 2016

    Football

Manchester United are being strongly linked to Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba in a world-record £100m move.

The 23-year-old France star left Old Trafford for less than £1m four years ago.

"I don't confirm and I don't deny," said United boss Jose Mourinho. "I cannot tell you.

"I don't think it is correct to speak about players of other clubs. My directors did a fantastic work to do 75% of the job I ask them to do. I gave them a few options. We have just 25% to do until 31 August.

"We are in great conditions to have a great market. We are calm. We have three faces to fill the profile. I am confident Mr Woodward will get the player we need to get a good balance."

'Journalists need to support Allardyce'published at 09:39 British Summer Time 21 July 2016

    Football

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has been speaking to journalists about Sam Allardyce's imminent appointment as England boss.

"It is your country. I think he is the right person. He is a good choice but he needs support.

"My experience shows me that you football people (media) can do a bit better. He is more than ready. He is a good motivator and can create a good team spirit. I wish him the best.

"From my side, I promise to try to supply him players and try to make sure the English players are always available in good condition. It is good for you. 1966 was a long time ago. Good luck Big Sam.

"We are going to be challenging for every title. It is a new start."

More Allardyce opinionspublished at 09:33 British Summer Time 21 July 2016

Here's a selection of some of the calls on BBC Radio 5 live now:

"I don't understand the appointment. He's never challenged for anything, he's never won anything.

"Look at England Rugby. Why do we have an obsession with an English manager?"

"I'm a West Ham fan and Sam came in when were we in a real mess. He turned the club around.

"I think the England side will have organisation, method and discipline under Sam."

"I think we need a young England manager. Someone like Eddie Howe or Nigel Clough."

Iceland result felt like relegation - Butcherpublished at 09:26 British Summer Time 21 July 2016

Former England defender Terry Butcher has also supported the appointment of Sam Allardyce.

He told BBC Radio 5 live: "I'm for Allardyce if that is what it takes to get players playing to the best of their ability.

"The Portuguese coach wasn't bothered how he got results. Everyone would take England grinding out wins if it meant they won the World Cup in 2018.

"The result against Iceland felt like a relegation. It felt like we got relegated from the top tier of international football."

BBC Radio 5 live are getting the opinion of some England fans and it's fair to say there's a bit of a split...

Terri said: "I would have preferred an Englishman and I think Sam is the right man for the job.

"We need to play together as a team and Sam is the right man to get us doing that."

However, Craig is of a slightly different thinking: "I think it's a ridiculous appointment.

"What has this guy done? We just need someone who can win. This is going to end in tears. It's a joke."

Jose Mourinho will address the media in 15 minutes as he looks ahead to Manchester United's opening tour game against Borussia Dortmund in Shanghai on Friday.

I can promise him it is going to be a test of stamina for his players.

Temperatures are well in excess of 35C and with the humidity as well, even a short stroll is enough to get you sweating.

I was in the same stadium for a Chinese Super League game last night. Playing in it did not look easy.

'I have less chance now' - Allardyce last yearpublished at 09:06 British Summer Time 21 July 2016

    Football

Writing in his autobiography, serialised in the Sun newspaper last year, Sam Allardyce said of his failure to be given the England job in 2006: "I should have got it and, as I'm a better manager now than I was then, I believe I should be in the running whenever it comes round again.

"That's not vanity or being full of my own importance. My track record entitles me to be considered.

"I'm ambitious and I still want the England job, but I have less chance now even though I'm better equipped to do it."

Allardyce was overlooked in favour of Steve McClaren which didn't really go that well...

Geoff Naylor: The FA have failed again. After Eriksson, McClaren, Capello and Hodgson we now have a 60 year-old who's never won anything!

Alex Shcnopple: Big Sam's the right man to replace Roy - although I would've liked Pardew to have been in the running rather than Bruce.

DavePark: As a Bolton fan, Big Sam will always be a hero, from a brutal centre-half to a man who took us to Europe twice. Good luck Sam

Gomez not returning to Turkeypublished at 08:36 British Summer Time 21 July 2016

Germany striker Mario Gomez "will not be playing" for Besiktas again because of the "political situation" in Turkey.

Gomez scored 28 goals in 41 games for the Istanbul club last season, while on loan from Serie A side Fiorentina, and won the Turkish league title.

The 31-year-old also scored twice for his country at Euro 2016. Could a move to the Premier League now be on the cards?
