Hull caretaker boss Mike Phelan could be in charge for Saturday's Premier League opener against champions Leicester.
The 53-year-old took temporary charge of the top-flight newcomers, who only have 13 fit senior players, after Steve Bruce left the club last month.
They were denied the chance to speak to Wales boss Chris Coleman, while Gianfranco Zola has also been interviewed.

Nottingham Forest manager Philippe Montanier wants to get the Championship side into Europe next season, by winning the EFL Cup.
They face Doncaster in round one on Tuesday.
"It's very important because it is the only way to go into the Europa League," Montanier, who only took charge this summer, told BBC Radio Nottingham.
"I know it's difficult because there are a lot of teams from the Premier League and Championship. It will be a very important game."

Defender Pablo Zabaleta says he is staying at Manchester City and has been told by Pep Guardiola he is part of the manager's plans.
The 31-year-old Argentina full-back told the Manchester Evening News:, external "There was a lot of speculation - that came from the media.
"I don't know how many times I was away to Italy. It was incredible. Every day there was a new club.
"I had been told by the new manager that I was part of this squad for this season, so I am more than pleased for this because City was my priority."

Northampton Town have signed former Wales defender Lewin Nyatanga on a season-long loan from Barnsley.
The 27-year-old cannot face his parent club tomorrow in the EFL Cup first round.

The former Northampton striker played 22 times for Barnsley on loan last season, scoring twice.

Bristol City will not sell Ivory Coast forward Jonathan Kodjia for less than £10m - and would not even sell him to a Championship club for that fee, says owner Steve Lansdown.
The 26-year-old joined the club for about £2m last summer and scored 20 goals in 48 games in 2015-16.
"It would have to be a mega price to prise him away and it would have to be a Premier League side," Lansdown told BBC Radio Bristol. "People have talked about five or six million - no chance.
"If it's not £10 million-plus, we're not even looking at it. If it's £10 million-plus from a Championship club, we're still not looking at it."
