    Football

A statement from Chesterfield striker Ched Evans after he was found not guilty of raping a 19-year-old woman in a hotel room.

"In the early hours of 30th May 2011 an incident occurred in North Wales that was to change my life and the lives of others for ever. That incident did not involve the commission of a criminal offence and today I am overwhelmed with relief that the Jury agreed.

"I would like to thank my legal team, Judy Khan QC and David Emanuel of Garden Court Chambers, London and Shaun Draycott of Draycott Browne Solicitors, Manchester, for their tireless efforts upon my behalf.

"Thanks go, too, to my friends and family; most notably my fiancée, Natasha, who chose, perhaps incredibly, to support me in my darkest hour.

"Whilst my innocence has now been established, I wish to make it clear that I wholeheartedly apologise to anyone who might have been affected by the events of the night in question."

Burnley boss Sean Dyche says there was no contact with Aston Villa over their managerial vacancy that has since been filled by Steve Bruce.

"It's just after two promotions in three years out of the Championship I think it was more of a common sense link more than anything," he says of the rumours.

"I think they've appointed a very good man. I get on well with Brucey and like him a lot as a person, as well as his record as a manager."

'Other countries have their legs on the sofa'published at 14:28 British Summer Time 14 October 2016

Even more from Jurgen Klopp: "Forty-eight hours between two games - how does this work?

"And then you will sit there and say 'you didn't perform too well, how did this happen?' or 'injuries. Oh?' and then this Dutch guy [Raymond Verheijen, who is critical of Klopp] says 'The training is not too good'.

"How do you prepare a team for this. Do you say 'only 50% against City because we have Sunderland on Monday'?

"It doesn't sound like it is right. Everyone is asking why England is not too successful in big tournaments.

"Ask what other big countries are doing at this time - they have their legs on the sofa and are watching English football."

Klopp 'cannot believe' new year fixturespublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 14 October 2016

More from angry Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp at his side's fixtures around Christmas being moved.

They face Stoke on 27 December, Manchester City on 31 December and Sunderland on 2 January.

"Now I have seen the fixtures and I am not too happy. We have less than 48 hours between our game against Manchester City and in Sunderland. Less than 48 hours, I cannot believe.

"I learn more and more about this league and maybe I have to ask someone if we can ask if there will be another time for us at Sunderland.

"I understand tradition - I would never say Boxing Day is not a good idea as I love it.

"I don't know why we play Monday. Is 2 January a special day in England?"

McClaren sorry for lack of commitmentpublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 14 October 2016

    Steve McClarenImage source, Rex Features

Returning Derby County head coach Steve McClaren has apologised for the lack of commitment which led to his sacking in 2015.

He left the Rams last summer after being continually linked to Newcastle, who he went on to join.

"My mistake was not quashing that, not dampening that and not committing," McClaren told BBC Radio Derby.

"That's my fault and I apologise for that. By the time I committed to the club, the club had every right to sack me.

He said he felt "lucky and honoured" to come back and work with "some damn good players" at Derby.

"The potential is there and to have a group like that, I am very lucky. Now we have to work together and produce a team that supporters can be proud of - and that is what we want to do."
