Arsenal and England footballer Alex Scott may have racked up 123 appearances for her national team, but she doesn't think she'd have had the chance to become a professional at all if not for former England women team coach Hope Powell

"If it wasn’t for Hope Powell, the women’s game wouldn’t be in the healthy place it is now,” she said.

“She turned an amateur sport into a professional sport."

World number three Judd Trump says the UK Championship "doesn't really feel like a tournament" before the televised second round starts on Saturday.

Englishman Trump, 27, won five frames in a row to beat Thailand's James Wattana 6-2 in the first round at the York Barbican on Tuesday.

Trump, the 2011 champion, told BBC Sport: "There is no real atmosphere so it's very hard.

"It's not really enjoyable out there. Until the TV kicks in, it doesn't really feel like a tournament, so everyone is just battling to get through."

Manchester United pair miss trainingpublished at 11:14 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November 2016

Manchester United v Feyenoord (Thursday, 20:05 GMT)

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the AON Training Complex

Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly were the only significant absentees from Manchester United's training session this morning.

Smalling (broken toe) and Bailly (knee) were not expected to be involved in the Europa League encounter with Feyenoord at Old Trafford on Thursday.

Bastian Schweinsteiger and Wayne Rooney were first on the training pitch, although the German is not available for the game as he is not in Jose Mourinho's European squad.

United are currently third in their group but with the two sides above them playing in the final round of matches, know a draw on Thursday will keep their qualification hopes alive and a win would leave them well placed to advance to the knock-out stages.
