    And while they were beaten by Ireland as recently as November, that was in the relative anonymity of the American city of Chicago, not in their own backyard.

    British swimmers Adam Peaty and James Guy have been named in the newly formed Global Association of Professional Swimmers.

    The union has 30 members so far and was set up to give swimmers a voice against the sport's governing body, Fina.

    It was announced by Hungary's triple Olympic gold medallist Katinka Hosszu, who described planned new rule changes as "destructive".

    She said she now expected "Fina will give us a seat at the table".

    Kent opener Sean Dickson's marathon innings at Beckenham has finally come to an end.

    The 25-year-old made the county's second-highest first-class score - falling short of Bill Ashdown's 332 set more than 80 years ago.

    He faced 408 balls, hitting 31 fours and three sixes taking Kent to 645-4 against Northants.

    While Arsenal and Chelsea seem to be busy working on deals, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has been left unimpressed by the club's lack of summer transfer dealings.

    After United's Europa League final win against Ajax on 24 May, Mourinho said he had given executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward a list of transfer targets.

    Senior United figures spoke privately about signing three or four players.

    There could be developments later this week, but so far the only new signing has been 22-year-old defender Victor Lindelof from Benfica for £31m.

    Kent opener Sean Dickson could be on for some records after lunch - the 25-year-old has gone to the interval on 294 not out.

    He would become the second Kent batsman to reach a triple century if he gets there - William Ashdown scored two in the 1930s including the county's highest score of 332.

    Kevin Pietersen was the last man to score 300 in the County Championship against Leicestershire in 2015, KP went on to make an unbeaten 355.

    Sir Bradley Wiggins is a five-time Olympic cycling champion, but will the 37-year-old's plans to swap his racing bike for a rowing boat see him reach a sixth Games?

    The 2012 Tour de France winner retired from cycling in December 2016 and has taken up rowing in the gym to keep fit.

    He first raised the idea of switching sports in his 2012 autobiography My Time, and has now outlined his intent to compete at the British Indoor Rowing Championships in December.

    "I might be being a bit delusional, but the times suggest I'm not," he said. "I'm going to see how far I can take it. Maybe a sixth Olympic gold?"

    Robert Kubica is to test again for Renault as he and the team explore whether he could make a comeback to Formula 1 from life-changing injuries.

    The 32-year-old Pole has only partial movement in his right arm after a crash in a rally car in February 2011, since when he has not raced on a circuit.

    However, he and Renault have maintained contact after an impressive first test back in an F1 car in Valencia in June.

    A further test has been scheduled but Renault would not reveal details.

    "There is nothing from us whatsoever," a spokesman said when asked about the date and location.

    Championship club Preston are set to appoint former Norwich and Hamilton boss Alex Neil as their new manager.

    Club officials spoke to the Scot, 36, following the departure of Simon Grayson to Sunderland.

    Neil has been out of the game since March, when he was sacked by Norwichafter 27 months at Carrow Road.

    Previously he had spent two years at Hamilton, guiding the club into the Scottish Premiership in his first full season.

    Ward's mother looks absolutely delighted as he wins it 6-4 - there is also an obvious expression of "I can't quite believe it!"...
