    The City squad are in LA preparing for their second pre-season tour game against Real Madrid.

    Manchester City have completed the signing of Monaco defender Benjamin Mendy on a five-year deal for a fee believed to be £52m.

    The 23-year-old France left-back, who joined Monaco from Marseille last summer, played 34 times for the club last season and helped them to their first Ligue 1 title in 17 years.

    Southampton captain Virgil van Dijk has not been included in their squad for a training camp in France this week.

    Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino said last week that Van Dijk had been training alone because he feels the player is "not 100%" mentally.

    The defender, 26, has been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool, although the Anfield club said they ended their interest last month.

    Southampton have said they don't want to sell him.

    Out-spoken Australian Bernard Tomic has gone on record in an extensive interview to discuss the comments he made about his career during Wimbledon.

    Tomic claimed he was bored during his straight-set defeat by Mischa Zverev earlier this month.

    The world number 69 now gone on to say: "Tennis chose me. It's something I never fell in love with.

    "Throughout my career I've given 100%. I've given also 30%. But if you balance it out, I think all my career's been around 50%.

    "I haven't really tried, and still achieved all this. So it's just amazing what I've done."

    Chelsea need to dig out the protective face masks - Pedro's going to need it.

    The winger suffered multiple fractures to his face during a collision with Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina in a friendly on Saturday.

    The 29-year-old was taken to hospital following the game in Beijing, which Chelsea won 3-0, and stayed overnight. He's expected to return to training in around 10 days, complete with superhero mask.

    Remember Thomas Sorensen? Formly of Sunderland, Aston Villa and Stoke?

    The Danish goalkeeper has hung up his gloves at the age of 41.

    He said in a statement on Instagram: "It's with great pride and a little bit of sadness, that I today officially announce my retirement from professional football. It's been an amazing journey with so many people to thank. Family, friends, clubs, coaches, players and fans...THANK YOU. I will be forever grateful for your support."

    Sorensen had been playing for Melbourne City since 2015 and he's planning to stay in Australia.

    Manchester City Women defender Jen Beattie has signed a two-year contract extension with the Women's Super League One champions.

    After joining from Montpellier in 2014, she has won the Continental Cup, WSL 1 title and Women's FA Cup with City.

    "The past two years have been unforgettable and I couldn't be happier I'm extending my contract," she said.

    The Scotland international, 26, missed out on going to Women's Euro 2017 because of an ankle injury.
