Everton boss Ronald Koeman is holding a news conference from 14:00 BST. It's to preview his side's Europa League qualifier with Hajduk Split on Thursday but expect it to be dominated by questions about Gylfi Sigurdsson.

  2. Barkley to Spurs blowpublished at 10:48 British Summer Time 16 August 2017

It had appeared Gylfi Sigurdsson's impending £45m move from Swansea to Everton would pave the way for Ross Barkley's exit from Goodison Park.

Instead, Barkley looks set for a period on the sidelines.

The England midfielder went for a scan on a hamstring injury yesterday and there are suggestions he will now be out for six weeks.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman is due to hold a press conference at 14:00 BST at which he will doubtless be asked about Barkley. But that long-anticipated move to Tottenham now has a big question mark over it.

More from Arsene Wenger, who has been reflecting on 25 years of the Premier League.

The Arsenal boss was asked about his 2003-04 'Invincibles'.

"It's very difficult to analyse in one sentence. They had some special qualities, exceptional qualities," said the Frenchman when asked what special ingredients the 'Invincibles' had that his present team does not.

Asked if any team will go unbeaten again in the Premier League, Wenger added: "Maybe one day a team will do it but not at this moment in the Premier League."

    Hoffenheim 1-2 Liverpool

    John Murray
    BBC football correspondent

Trent Alexander-Arnold was the nice story of the evening from Liverpool's point of view. He is from Merseyside, he's from the West Derby area of Liverpool, which is close to where Liverpool train at Melwood.

When he was a little boy he used to look through the holes in the walls of Liverpool's training ground. Obviously now he's progressed to where he is.

Eighteen-years-old - that was only his 13th competitive appearance for the Liverpool first team. He stepped up and took responsibility when it was 0-0 and took the chance really well.

The 18-year-old was once a Liverpool mascot and used to peer through the holes in the walls at Liverpool's training ground hoping to catch a glimpse of his heroes.

Alexander-Arnold scored his first goal for the senior team in the Champions League win over Hoffenheim on Tuesday.

Everhopeful: Liverpool need to sign Virgil van Dijk quickly and get Andrew Robertson match fit quickly. Liverpool can attack OK but they have a useless defence.

Finkelstein: Well done Liverpool for an excellent win. What makes it even better is Hoffenheim have been unbeaten at home for over a year which makes the Liverpool performance all the better.

AF83: It's just a pity Philippe Countinho will still leave & Liverpool couldn't beat Watford. The Hoffenheim win papers over the cracks.

They need to strengthen up top because you don't know what Fernando Llorente is going to be doing. They need players in two or three different positions."
