Everton boss Ronald Koeman says he is a big fan of Pep Guardiola's style of play at Manchester City.

The two teams meet tonight and Koeman said: "The way he (Guardiola) likes to play is the most difficult way. It's really a pleasure to see his teams playing football.

"They play with a lot of offensive players in the teams. The Premier League is strong physically on set-plays and they try to play with a high defence.

"There is always space behind, we know that, we remember that. When we played City at home we punished them for that but I still think the business they did in the summer, they are stronger than last year."

Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola believes the strength of his squad will prove crucial in the Premier League this season and has urged his players to understand he will have to rotate his team.

He said: "Hopefully they will understand that at the big clubs you cannot have 11 players, so they have to compete with each other.

"In that kind of level in the Premier League, the people who are 12, 13, 14 and play in the game, they are so, so important.

"When the game is in the last 15 or 20 minutes, the opponent is tired and we've moved them during the game, and we can put in dynamic players. It's a point where we can win games in the last minutes."

Burnley

Some more quotes from Burnley boss Sean Dyche, who is not too downbeat, despite his side's 1-0 loss at home to West Brom on Saturday.

"I was really pleased with the performance, we want to be flexible with how the team operates and it was a good performance so there are a lot of good signs," added Dyche.

Burnley

Burnley manager Sean Dyche has just been talking to the media and discusses the club's record signing of striker Chris Wood from Leeds in a transfer worth £15m.

"We are really happy to have Chris with us," says Dyche. "He is 25, has a lot of goals in him and it is improving the competition and the quality of the group. Obviously some players have left us and I wanted to strengthen. He has only just got here, but we will see how he gets on over the next few days.

"We are in the market for a number of different positions. I like the squad we have got but if certain situations arrive we will activate on them. We have had some good business done early and I like the shape the group is in at the moment."

What an enticing prospect this is for Manchester City's first home match.

After a so far fruitful summer transfer window, every time they emerge from their futuristic new circular dressing room at the Etihad Stadium this season they will probably begin as favourites to win.

However, Everton will arrive with a bit of mystery about them, plus new club record signing Gylfi Sigurdsson.

They've started with four wins out of four in all competitions without conceding a goal, but after this in the league they play Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United.

So we're about to find out what this new-look Everton are made of.

Plymouth Argyle have signed striker Nadir Ciftci on a season-long loan from Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.

The 25-year-old, from Turkey, joined Celtic from Dundee United for £1.5m in 2015, but made just 11 starts.

It is the third season in a row that he has left Scotland on loan, with spells at Eskisehirspor, in his home country, and Polish club Pogon Szczecin.

Ciftci last played for Brendan Rodgers' side in February, but has not scored for Celtic since December 2015. He has previously played in England for Portsmouth, scoring once in 19 Championship appearances during the 2010-11 campaign.

Portuguese newspaper A Bola says West Ham are close to completing a 38m euros (£34.7m) deal for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho.

Italian newspaper Tuttosport has the story that Juventus are making an ambitious bid to sign Roma and Netherlands midfielder Kevin Strootman.

Strootman, 27, signed a new contract with Roma in the summer after his side finished second in Serie A, behind Juventus, who have won the Italian title in all of the past six seasons.

The paper focuses on Wales forward Gareth Bale, who scored one and created another goal in the victory.

League Two Accrington Stanley plan a "hostile" welcome for West Brom when the Premier League club visit on Tuesday in the second round of the EFL Cup (19:45 BST).

"We’ve got to make it hostile, show our appetite for the game early on, set the tone with our pressing and get the fans behind us from the first whistle," said Accrington boss John Coleman.

"We hope that our home record means will mean that Tony Pulis and West Brom will be feeling a bit uncomfortable about coming here."

Jermain Defoe will make his first competitive start for Bournemouth in Tuesday's EFL Cup second round tie at Birmingham City (19:45 BST).

Defoe, 34, has started on the substitutes bench for the first two Premier League games of the season.

Leicester City

Craig Shakespeare says he plans to make changes for Leicester City's EFL Cup second round tie at Championship Sheffield United on Tuesday (19:45 BST).

However, Shakespeare adds that striker Jamie Vardy, who suffered an ankle injury in the win against Brighton at the weekend, will be involved.

"To what extent I'm not sure," added the Foxes boss. "I plan to make changes. I want a competitive group and we’ve got that. There are players that deserve a chance."
