    Liverpool

    Will he or won't he?

Philippe Coutinho's Liverpool future continues to be debated in the newspapers and across the airwaves.

Now Joey Barton has had his say on the matter after the Reds rejected a third bid from Barcelona - believed to be in the region of £114m.

“He [Coutinho] wants out, and if you’re getting up to what are they now, almost £120m, it just looks like how much rather than if or when," the former Manchester City midfielder tells Talksport., external

“He’s not a Scouser, he’s a Brazilian. He’s already living a fair distance away from home and he’s probably grown up wanting to play for Barcelona.

"No disrespect to Liverpool, but that’s the club Brazilian youngsters grow up wanting to play for nowadays. It’s not the Liverpool of the 80s, it’s Liverpool who haven’t won a title for over 20 years, so you can’t blame the boy."

Birmingham City have signed Arsenal's Carl Jenkinson and Cohen Bramall on loan until the end of the season.

Right-back Jenkinson, 25, made just five appearances for Arsenal last season after spending the previous two campaigns on loan with West Ham.

Left-back Bramall, 21, moves after joining the Gunners from non-league side Hednesford Town in January. Both defenders could make their debuts in Tuesday's EFL Cup second round tie against Bournemouth at St Andrew's.

Jenkinson departs on his third loan spell in four seasons, having made 62 appearances for Arsenal since arriving from Charlton in 2011, while Bramall is yet to play for Arsenal's first team after his move from Hednesford.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is back in the headlines again, mainly because of his social media post showing him doing some kick boxing which indicates his recovery from knee surgery is going pretty well.

Ibrahimovic is out of contract but merely by allowing him to train at the club, Manchester United opened the door for the Swede to agree a new deal after an outstanding debut campaign at Old Trafford.

It now seems merely a matter of time before an agreement is confirmed.

When Ibrahimovic ruptured his cruciate ligaments in April, estimates of his recovery time ranged from nine to 12 months. So far he has been out for four months.

'No time to bed in'published at 11:57 British Summer Time 21 August 2017

    #bbcsportsday

Footyfan94: Wembley has always been a neutral ground and while it can drum up huge amounts of support in cup games, trying to convince Spurs fans that this is their home will be difficult.

FIOS: It is Tottenham's home but only a short term rent, so by the time they get settled, they'll be off again. No time to really bed in to their surroundings.

Docdb: If Spurs fans want Wembley to feel like home they will need to stay to the final whistle instead of deserting en masse when the team needs them the most.

  8. 'Spurs can succeed at Wembley'published at 11:52 British Summer Time 21 August 2017

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

This is a crucial season for Spurs after two near misses in the title race and they need to get the feel of their new surroundings quickly.

Tottenham's performance, if not the result, actually provided ample evidence that they can succeed at Wembley.

Spurs will continue to deflect talk that they have moved into a stadium containing too many ghosts of an unhappy past - and there is too much quality in Mauricio Pochettino's side for that miserable record to last too much longer.

For all that, they, and their fans, will still feel a whole lot more settled and better about life at Wembley with a first win behind them.

'Great tactics by Conte'published at 10:55 British Summer Time 21 August 2017

    #bbcsportsday

Saddletramp: Spurs ran out of ideas after an hour, it took a dodgy free kick and an own goal for them to get back in the game. They had 14 corners and never looked like scoring from one.

Steve: Good tactics from Antonio Conte won Chelsea the match. They won't work every time, as they'll need to start using Alvaro Morata's strengths in the long run, but it was good.

Will Manning: Great tactics from Conte, gets us off the mark, puts doubts in Spurs' minds & and 3pts on the board.

  20. What crisis?published at 10:49 British Summer Time 21 August 2017

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

Chelsea went to Wembley supposedly in the depths of crisis following the opening-day home defeat by Burnley and with the saga over Diego Costa's future being played out as a distracting backdrop.

But there was little evidence of crisis here as the Blues dropped back into the old routine - hard-as-nails defensive resilience and that ruthless winners' streak that allowed them to snatch victory late on.

This was just the result and performance Antonio Conte and Chelsea needed - and the triumph was even sweeter because it was inflicted on Spurs at their temporary new home, delivering a blow to a side who will regard themselves as rivals for the title this season.
