There's support for some moments that haven't been included in our list on Twitter and a question over whether we've neglected older moments... As well as support for Team GB's hockey gold in Rio, which is on our list but yet to be announced.

Jodmos: Mary Peters winning the gold in 1972. Also surprised that women's sport seems to have only started around 2010 according to this list (with a couple of exceptions).

Paul Turkington: How is Paula Radcliffe's marathon WC at London 2003 not on this list? World beating for 16 years.

Sally Rawlins: Team GB hockey team’s gold at Rio was pretty special, off the back of their heroics in 2012.

    Kelly Smith
    Former England striker

Last year, when Soccer Aid introduced female players to play with the men, that was another great moment.

It was great visibility for the women's game. They really held their own on the pitch. There was an acceptance that women are just as good as the men, that we're all equal. We're just footballers.

One of my favourite memories from the 2012 Olympics was the athletes' village.

As a footballer you dreamed of playing in European Championships and World Cups but you never had the opportunity to play in an Olympics.

When it came about, I was extremely excited to get in amongst the other athletes and talk to them.

I would say one of the best British breakthrough moments for women's football would be the 2012 Olympics which I was fortunate enough to play in. There was a big shift in momentum.

So many people came out to support the women's game. Playing against Brazil at Wembley was a surreal experience.

British women's football has given us so many great moments, it was a very tough job for former Arsenal and England striker Kelly Smith to pick just one.

She went for Team GB at London 2012, a tournament that saw the side beat Brazil 1-0 in front of a crowd of over 70,000 at Wembley to finish top of their group.

Unfortunately they were beaten 2-0 by Canada in the quarter-finals but it is a summer that Smith will never forget.

Hayley Turner's Silver Saddle win, which finished 17th on our list, has been getting some love on Twitter.

There's also appreciation for Team GB hockey's Rio 2016 gold, England's netball Commonwealth Games gold in 2018 and England's 2017 Cricket World Cup win, as well as another call for athletics' Kelly Holmes to be on the list.

Scurlogue Champ: Hayley Turner, NOT JUST the Silver Saddle at the Shergar Cup, 3 Group 1's(including in America), has inspired a lot of ladies to become jockeys, and I believe her success has opened doors for other women in what was/is a male-dominated sport. Deserves to win this.

Forever Dormo: Women's GB Hockey team's Gold Medal at the Rio Olympic Games was the standout women's sporting moment. I'd say it was No 1, Kelly Holmes' double 800/1500m gold in the Athens Olympics is at 2 & the Women's Cricket World Cup win in 2017 comes in a great 3rd. ALL SOLID GOLD

Mike Holmes: Helen Housby scoring the winner v Australia in the Commonwealth Games 2018.

Beth Tweddle's bar routine in the London 2012 Olympic Games made history as she became the first British female gymnast to win an Olympic medal.

Talk about being a trailblazer, Beth was the first female gymnast in Great Britain to become European champion and the first British female gymnast to become a world champion.

Beth Tweddle became the first British female gymnast to win an Olympic medal when she won bronze on uneven bars at London 2012.

The now 35-year-old has changed the game for British gymnasts. She was the first British woman to become a European champion, then world champion.

She even invented her own move on the uneven bars! 'The Tweddle' is a daring move that involves catching the bars with crossed hands.

Tweddle missed out on a medal by the tiniest of margins at Beijing 2008 so carried on for four more years to compete in London and the rest is history...

DDKindleVille: Cycling London Olympics 2012. Laura Kenny then Trott won 2 Gold medals on track. She was definitely on fire

16: Women's Madison at the 2017 Track Cycling World Championships

    Katie Archibald
    Three-time world track cycling champion

The 2017 Track Cycling World Championships was the first time in track cycling history that a full programme was contested by men and women at Worlds.

My career spans only a small blip of that history and yet I have still been party to more than enough of the degrading attitudes so often attached to female riders about whether we should be trusted to compete in such a taxing and technical event as the Madison.

That attitude is now a minority voice and that first World Championships Madison in 2017 was another wave in the growing tide of respect for women's sport and for us as competitors.

The 2017 Track Cycling World Championships was the first time the women's madison had been included in the event.

Not only was it a historic day for women's cycling, Great Britain's Elinor Barker and Emily Nelson won silver.

The feat was all the more impressive given what Barker admitted about her madison expertise after the race: “I was nervous because we’d only ridden one each before, we didn’t know what to expect."

My best British women’s sporting moment for horse racing has to be when Hayley Turner won the Silver Saddle and her team won the overall Shergar Cup. Mainly because she is a massive inspiration and role model to me but also because she beat the boys!
