Hayley Turner has helped pave the way for female jockeys. In 2008, she became the first women to ride 100 UK flat race winners in a calendar year.

But the moment for which Turner has been nominated is her 2018 Silver Saddle win for best jockey at the Shergar Cup.

The Shergar Cup is a team event which, since 2012, has consisted of four teams with three teams representing geographical areas - Great Britain and Ireland, Europe and the Rest of the World - and one all-female team, called the Girls team.

Not only did she win Silver Saddle in 2018, Turner helped the Girls team to victory and was deservedly proud, saying:

“We’re racing against the best jockeys around the world and we’ve beat them on level terms. Just saying.”

Then, she went and won the Silver Saddle again the following year!

Groundhopper Dobby: I reckon Nicola Adams and first Olympic champion in boxing at London 2012 deserves a spot on the list.

Catherine Foley: Such a shame Chrissie Wellington and Lucy Charles-Barclay haven’t been considered - amazing athletes in the world of triathlon. They both do so much to inspire other women too.

Never a nice position to be in, but somebody had to finish eighteenth...

Reanne Evans is a true trailblazer in the world of women's snooker. She's won the women's world title a record 12 times and became the first woman to reach the final stages of a ranking tournament at the 2013 Wuxi Classic.

Evans also became the first woman to win a World Championship match when she beat Robin Hull in 2017.

The 34-year-old almost came back from 3-0 down to beat former world champion Shaun Murphy on her Champion of Champions debut in 2019 and that is the moment she was nominated for - by Murphy himself.
