The real superstar is the crowd and the Kansas City Chiefs are feeding off them. This is a fantastic football game to watch right now.

This man [Chiefs head coach Andy Reid] is ready to do whatever he needs to do and is taking no chances. They got to the one-yard line and needed more than a field goal.

If the 49ers are going to win this game, Jimmy G is going to have to throw the ball for more than 100 yards.

  2. 'Magic man'published at 00:19 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2020

And this is that one-yard touchdown from the 'magic man' Mahomes to give the Chiefs the lead after the first quarter.

Was it ever in doubt, Tom? That drive by the Chiefs lasted 15 plays and 75 yards.

And we're at the end of the first quarter already. Where did that go?!

    Syed: Mahomes TD!!

Steve Lloyd: I love watching the Super Bowl even tho I don't fully understand what's going on. A very violent human game of chess.

Well at least you're having a great time, Steve! American football is indeed a brutal game.

Imagine having the whole of the US sports media, and believe me, that's a lot of people, asking you for the best part of two weeks whether you were ready for your first Super Bowl while also regularly comparing you to the game's absolute legends. At the age of just 24.

Patrick Mahomes just showed up - big time.

  7. Touchdown - Mahomespublished at 00:13 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2020
    Breaking

Kansas City Chiefs 7-3 San Francisco 49ers

Damien Williams is stopped for no gain. But from the very next play Patrick Mahomes drifts to the right and runs into the endzone untouched.

The Chiefs' quarterback flexes his muscles in celebration before Harrison Butker kicks the extra point.

The Chiefs are now on fourth down, five yards from the 49ers' endzone, and decide to run it.

Damien Williams bursts through but is stopped inches short. It's a first down though.

Patrick Mahomes cannot be taking hits like that. It was fascinating by what the Kansas City Chiefs were able to do, they were able to run the ball and the 49ers cannot allow the Chiefs to do that.

    Ouch!published at 00:07 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2020

Kansas City Chiefs 0-3 San Francisco 49ers

Patrick Mahomes is sacked for a one-yard loss before scrambling to the right. He's just three yards short of the endzone when he's clattered by Jimmy Ward, who knocks the ball loose.

Ward has actually come off worse, though, and will need treatment.

The Chiefs have got going on this drive, with Patrick Mahomes making passes to Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce.

Kelce makes an 11-yard gain to get the Chiefs up to the 49ers' 14-yard line.

In the build-up to this match many thought the key would be whether or not the 49ers could stop Patrick Mahomes from finding his rhythm.

The Chiefs' first drive came to nothing but the main man could be clicking into gear...

Gareth Murtaugh: Good by the Chiefs to only give up 3 points there, Niners moved the ball well, Mahones has to respond now

Shey Mouse: Feels like the #ChiefsKingdom, external defence are a bit nervous.

Pablo Hudson: 49ers using trick plays early. I'm suprised. Maybe setting it up to go long in pass game but I'm still surprised.

Kansas City Chiefs 0-3 San Francisco 49ers

Whenever San Francisco are in danger they will look to George Kittle. But I don't like what I just saw from San Francisco.

They were trying too many tricks and they need to get back to what got them here.

But Patrick Mahomes for the Chiefs looks a bit nervous. The ball was coming out of his hands too fast.

    Tom Rostance

I sat down with Niners kicker Robbie Gould earlier in the week - he only started playing American Football in his second year of high school and only because his brother did!

He was a soccer player before that, centre mid. Nice guy, nerves of steel as he knocked that through.

He said all 32 NFL kickers are in contact with each other - the most brutal position to be in. Go big or go home.

Kansas City Chiefs 0-3 San Francisco 49ers

Jimmy Garoppolo targets George Kittle again on third down but a Chief gets his fingertips to it and the pass goes incomplete.

The 49ers have to settle for a field-goal attempt, which Robbie Gould swats right down the middle from 38 yards. San Francisco draw first blood.

Kyle Shanahan, in his third year as 49ers head coach, is looking to emulate his father Mike, who led the Denver Broncos to two Super Bowl wins.

He's called two trick plays on the 49ers' opening drive, with Deebo Samuel scrambling for another first down.

Nick Godden: Let’s go! My homie Mahomes for the MVP all day long. Let’s GO CHIEFSSSS!

Some big love for the Chiefs quarterback tonight.
